“Since Calum is in your room, why don’t we rest in mine instead? I finished redecorating it, and you haven’t seen it yet.”
He had redone his entire room, making sure Emma would like it.
Emma did want to take a look, but she still couldn’t shake her worry over a drunk Calum. The memories of Lucien, Edric, and Drake’s drunken chaos were still fresh in her mind.
“Tomorrow.” She cupped Marcus‘ face and kissed him lightly. “Calum is drunk. If we don’t watch him, he might cause trouble.”
Marcus felt a pang of disappointment, but after she kissed him, he had no room to argue.
“Alright. Then let’s go back and babysit that stupid tiger.”
He had barely finished speaking when Lucien walked in from outside, with Silas right behind him.
“Emy.” Silas frowned the moment he saw Emma still awake this late.
“You’re back,” Emma said quickly. “Are you hungry? Marcus and I can make you something to eat.”
“No.” Silas shook his head immediately. He walked up to her, took her hand, and asked, “Why are you still awake at this hour?”
Lucien watched her too, then shot Marcus a disapproving look–as if silently reprimanding him for not coaxing Emma to bed earlier.
“You don’t have to glare at me,” Marcus shot back, equally annoyed. He was already in a terrible mood. “It’s not my fault Ms. Tibarn isn’t asleep. We were resting just fine until Calum suddenly got drunk and barged in to bother her. He woke her up, not me.”
Marcus was not the kind to take the blame for someone else.
“Calum drank?” Lucien stiffened, a hint of alarm in his voice. “Did he cause you any trouble?”
Emma shook her head. “No. Calum didn’t act out. He’s asleep in my room right now.”
At the words “act out.” Lucien’s ears flushed red.
Silas frowned. “Emy, didn’t you say there wasn’t any alcohol left?”

“I started a new batch today,” Emma explained. managed to smooth things over with Dahlia today. And since the Celestara Gala is in three days, I’m planning to invite her for a drink. then.
“You’re giving her alcohol?” Lucien quirked a brow. “To see if she’ll reveal her true form once she’s drunk?”
Emma nodded. “Exactly. Since she’s not human, and she doesn’t seem like a female therian either… is it possible she’s Chitinid?”
Lucien and Silas had both wondered the same. Dahlia was cautious–she’d never slipped up
once.
“That could work,” Silas said, still holding Emma’s hand as he guided her toward the stairs. “But it means you’ll have to put on a bit of a show with Dahlia over the next two days.”
“Don’t worry. Acting is what I’m best at.” Emma grinned.
She wasn’t sure whether her homemade brew would affect Dahlia the way it affected male therians. But it was worth a try. If it didn’t work, she’d think of something else.
Back in the bedroom, something occurred to her. She looked at Silas and Lucien. “Why did you two come into my room? It’s late–go rest.”
“No rush.”
Silas glanced at Lucien. Lucien walked straight to the couch, grabbed the unconscious Calum by the scruff like he weighed nothing, and lifted him effortlessly.
Silas smiled at Emma. “Since he’s drunk, we’re taking him downstairs so he won’t disturb your sleep.”
Emma glanced at Clum dangling in Lucien’s grip. The way Lucien held him… honestly, it looked painful even to her.
“Calum drank, but my brew isn’t done yet. I’m worried something might happen to him later tonight.”
“Don’t worry,” Silas reassured her. “I’ll find a family doctor to stay with him. I guarantee he’ll be fine.”
He urged Marcus to look after her and rest, then he and Lucien–still holding Calum like a sack of potatoes–left the room.
