The most revolting part of her was her face. It looked like acid had eaten away half of it. Her left eye had rotted into a pus–filled hole. Her right bulged with a murky yellow orb. Her lips were torn into jagged ribbons, peeling open to reveal layers of needle–thin teeth packed tight behind the wreckage.
“Mommy, she’s so ugly!”
Remy popped out from Emma’s hair. The moment he saw Dahlia’s face, he nearly vomited on the spot.
Emma gagged too. Her throat burned.
That last Chitinid, the one with eyes all over its face, had already been horrifying.
But Dahlia was worse.
“Emma, get back inside the ship.”
Calum’s voice came sharp from across the field.
“The slime on her wings is laced with poison. Do not let it touch you.”
Emma nodded fast. “Be careful.”
She knew if she stayed, she would only distract them. Both Calum and Marcus needed to focus.
Dahlia’s eyes
locked onto her retreating figure. Her wings beat once, then she launched through the air like a bullet.
Venom–coated claws slashed toward the center of Emma’s back, cutting through the wind with lethal speed.
“Pathetic.”
A white flash surged from Calum’s body. In an instant, he returned to his beast form.
The entire ground trembled beneath the weight of his Rank 12 aura. His paw slammed down as his ability burst to life, forming a blinding shield in front of Emma that blocked Dahlia’s strike.
At the same time, his tiger tail whipped through the air and snapped toward her wings with thunderous force.
Marcus shifted into a giant white wolf.
Ice crystals glittered and formed around him.
The electricity coursing through Calum arced into the air. It spread across the frozen spears, charging them with a dazzling white glow.
Hundreds of icy lances shot into the sky. They cut through the air, all zeroed in on Dahlia. The air rippled behind their paths.
Dahlia’s twisted face distorted even more. Her whole expression contorted with bitter hatred.
“You think this’ll stop me?”
Her voice split into a high, shrill screech. It wasn’t just loud–it pierced like a blade. The kind of sound that stabbed through

eardrums and rattled through bones.
She struck her wings once, hard. A sickly green windstorm exploded outward from her.
Her wings started vibrating so fast, the air began to whine.
Each beat threw up thousands of invisible strands of toxic mucus.
The slime solidified midair, hardening into venomous needles. They clustered like swarming barbs and shot forward, colliding head–on with Marcus‘ frozen barrage.
A wet, screeching hiss filled the air as the two attacks slammed into each other.
The needles melted through the ice. The spears shattered on contact. Black smoke curled upward, heavy with a nauseating stench that blanketed the sky.
Then came a sharp metallic shriek from behind her.
A golden talon streaked through the air and lunged straight for her back.
Dahlia froze. She knew that sound.
Kael.
Her own therian creation had turned on her?
She scoffed in her head. The nerve.
She didn’t bother turning around. Her spiked joints twisted at a grotesque angle. Her body snapped backward like it had no spine.
She threw both arms up. Her shell–plated hands, clawed and blackened, went straight for the incoming strike.
The clash rattled the battlefield.
Kael’s massive frame hurled through the air like a missile out of control. His body spun in a messy gold arc before it slammed into a mountain wall. The impact burst the rock apart. Debris and smoke shot up in clouds.
Inside the ship, Emma gasped. Her heart clenched so hard it hurt. Her fingernails dug into her palms.
This was what a real fight looked like.
Bloody. Ruthless. Every move meant to kill.
When Calum had fought Lucien, the force had been terrifying, but no one had been trying to end it for good.
Her eyes stayed glued to the battlefield.
Lucien stepped beside her and spoke under his breath.
“Emma, it’s alright.”
He nodded at the fight.
“Calum’s still holding strong. Marcus needs this if he’s going to rank up.”

Then he added without looking at her.
“Kieran’s not needed yet.”
Emma gave a quiet nod. Back on the field-

The second Kael hit the cliff, Calum moved. He tore through the air. His tiger paw glowed bright and dropped with unstoppable force straight toward Dahlia.
At the same time, Marcus summoned hundreds more icy spears. They closed in fast, forming a massive cage that sealed off every escape route. The walls of the trap narrowed, closing on Dahlia from all sides.
“Die already.”
Dahlia’s voice dropped into a snarl.
