On his end, the images didn’t display at all, so Lucien and Edric hadn’t seen what he’d sent–just the file format indicating that they were pictures.

Silas had been coaching Corvin on how to “win points” with Emma lately. And whenever Corvin had something good, he naturally shared it with Silas.

“It’s nothing,” Corvin muttered defensively. “I just picked out a few outfits and asked Silas which one Emma might like.”

There was no way he could admit the truth–especially not in front of Edric.

Emma asked Edric everything. If he slipped up and mentioned the photos, Corvin would be dead.

“Outfit photos?” Lucien leaned in with a faint smile. “If it’s just clothes, why are you acting like you’re hiding classified intel? We’re not going to buy the same thing.”

Edric stepped closer too. “I think you’re lying. And lying isn’t a good look. If you don’t tell us the truth, I’ll go tell Emma you and Silas are hiding something from her.”

Corvin stared at the two of them, indignant and increasingly nervous.

“You guys are unbelievable. How can you do this to me?”

“So are you telling us the truth or not?” Edric pressed.

Lucien added calmly, “I saw you taking photos of Emma earlier. Those are the ones you sent to Silas, aren’t they?”

Even if Corvin refused to say it, Lucien had already pieced it together.

“You took photos of Emma?” Edric looked genuinely surprised.

There had been a stall selling adorable plush toys nearby. Edric had wandered off to pick one out for Emma and hadn’t noticed Corvin snapping pictures.

“Open them. Let me see,” Edric urged.

With Lucien having exposed him, there was no point in denying it anymore.

Corvin looked between them miserably. “Emma made me delete them. I secretly restored them. If you two look, you absolutely cannot tell her.”

Edric frowned. “Why would she make you delete them? Did you take awful pictures of her?”

“No!” Corvin immediately protested. “I made her look adorable. Maybe Emma just doesn’t appreciate that style.”

Lucien gave him a look that said he doubted that very much.

“Enough talking. Open them and send them to us.”

Reluctantly, Corvin reopened his lightcore and resent the photos to Lucien and Edric.

Edric flipped through the rest, suppressing the urge to actually strangle Corvin himself. He clapped a heavy hand on Corvin’s shoulder.

“Listen carefully. Do not take photos of Emma again.”

If she didn’t beat him up, someone else might.

Lucien nodded coolly. “And don’t take photos of me either. I’m not as forgiving as Emma. I would actually kill you.”

“What are you talking about?” Corvin bristled. “Weren’t they cute?”

“No,” Edric said flatly. “Not cute. Abstractly tragic.”

Lucien agreed. “Accurate.”

Corvin’s heart sank.

This is the end of the world. If that’s true… then Emma…

Meanwhile, Emma had found a particularly beautiful spot.

Malrik was taking photos of her.

“Emma, what do you think of this set?” He handed her his lightcore.

She stepped closer and looked at the screen.

Then she nodded, deeply satisfied.

Now this was professional–level photography.

In the picture, she stood beneath flowering trees, head tilted slightly upward. Light filtered through the leaves, scattering across her cheek and the hem of her dress. The image felt almost dreamlike.
