“We’re done here. I should get moving, too. Dreyfus, let’s leave.”

Corvin watched them disappear, then grinned and tapped his storage band.

The sound of metal touching metal filled the room. “With this haul of beast cores, I can build Emma a few more powerful mechs.”

He turned to Kieran, who sat quietly beside him.

“Kieran, let’s go find Emma.”

Kieran glanced over, his expression distant. “You go ahead. I’ll stay here a bit longer.”

“What’s going on?” Corvin looked him over, concern clear on his face. “Are you feeling sick? There’s a pool right over there. Want to go soak for a while?”

Corvin knew Merfolk couldn’t stay away from water too long.

If Kieran wasn’t feeling off, he’d never leave Emma’s side.

“I’m not sick. I’m just thinking about some things. I want a little time alone. You don’t need to worry about me.” Kieran’s tone was flat. “If I need anything, I’ll tell you.”

Since Kieran wasn’t talking, Corvin let it drop.
