She had long hoped Corvin would finally bring his huntress home, but the boy only ever buried himself in his workshop. He never seemed to find the time, no matter how many times she urged him.

Kelly held Emma’s hand warmly as she guided her into the palace.

Watching his mother immediately whisk Emma away, Corvin looked pitifully at his father. Falanx Draemont gave him a helpless smile, patted his shoulder, and signaled for him not to make a fuss.

Everyone entered the bright reception hall and settled onto the soft couches. Emma retrieved the gifts she had prepared from her storage band. “Mother, Father, since this is our first meeting, I brought a small token of appreciation.”

She handed Kelly an ornate brocade box.

Kelly opened it–and froze. “A Beast God’s fruit?”

“Emma, this is far too precious. We can’t accept this.”

Seeing Kelly about to return the gift, Corvin hurried to intervene. “Mother, just accept it.”

Emma added, “Mother, this is from both Corvin and me. If you don’t accept it… that means you don’t like me.”

“You child, how could I not like you?” Kelly said anxiously. “You had me at hello.”

Her health wasn’t great, and she had no daughters–only Corvin and Chase. She had dreamed countless times of having a daughter like Emma.

“Aunt Kelly, Uncle Falanx.”

A voice sounded at the doorway–Dreyfus.

Immediately, Kelly discreetly tucked the Beast God’s fruit away.

“Didn’t Dreyfus say he was picking up a friend? Why is he here?” Corvin frowned immediately. His cousin rarely visited, so showing up now wasn’t a good sign.

Beside Marcus, Kieran’s head snapped toward the door, his gaze sharp. Seeing his reaction, Marcus frowned as well and followed his line of sight.

Dreyfus stepped into the hall–and beside him stood a strikingly handsome young male, bright and attention–grabbing.

“Dreyfus, what brings you here?” Kelly smiled politely before shifting her gaze to the unfamiliar male. “And who might this be?”

Dreyfus made the introduction with a pleasant smile. “Aunt Kelly, this is my friend, Gaellard Chestmund. He’s visiting Ravaryn today and heard Corvin happened to be home. He wants to commission a special airship, so I brought him over.

Gaellard bowed slightly. “I apologize for the interruption.”

Kelly turned to her son. “Corvin, since Mr. Chestmund is here for you, you should go out and discuss it properly.”

She definitely didn’t want Gaellard staying here longer. Any male Dreyfus brought over at this particular moment–especially one this handsome–was a red flag.

Kieran cast another glance at Gaellard, stood, and said to Emma, “Emma, I’m thinking of getting some fresh air. I’ll go with Corvin.”

Emma gave him a nod. “Go on.”

She didn’t know why Kieran wanted to step out, but she trusted he had a reason.
