He let out a short, mocking laugh. “And don’t give me that noble speech about protecting Central Planet. Spare us the self- righteous act. You’re just terrified that Gaellard might kick up a storm, and the Imperial Security Agency won’t be able to contain the fallout. Then you’ll be the ones getting dragged in front of a committee to answer for it.”

He tilted his head, looking Faustus up and down with open disdain. “Do you people even have any shame? Oh, and check out that holier–than–thou look. You’ve got balls of steel, huh? I don’t think anything could shake you, not even a bullet.”

The moment he finished speaking, the office door suddenly swung open.

Silas stepped inside, tall and composed. His long frame carried a chill that seemed to seep into the entire room.
