Emma quickly shook her head. Her eyes locked on Silas‘ smiling ones. “You’re usually so gentle. I didn’t expect that when you got angry… it was kind of scary.”
But even though it’s scary… It’s so hot. His protective streak, the way he got all fierce–it just hit me right in the heart. I guess I’m wearing a little filter when it comes to him. Otherwise, how could I think that his getting mad could look so good?
Silas paused for a beat when he heard her. He lowered his gaze, hiding the fleeting shadow in his eyes, and his voice came out soft and low. “Did I scare you?”
He didn’t want her to see this side of him. If he could, he’d always be the calm, gentle version she knew whenever she was around.
“No.” Emma shook her head immediately. Her eyes were sparkling as she looked at him. “Not at all. If anything, I think the way you just got mad… it was really handsome.”
Handsome?
Silas blinked, then couldn’t help but let out a quiet laugh. The anger he had been holding onto just moments ago melted away instantly at her words. “So you like it when I get mad?”
He nodded thoughtfully. “I get it now.”
He gets it now?
Emma tilted her head. “You get what?”
Silas just smiled. “Nothing.” He reached for her hand. “Come on, let’s go to my office. I have the dress ready for you to try on for conight’s gala. Let’s see if it fits.”
Once they got back to the office, Faustus finally stepped out from the nearby lounge.
The door to Silas‘ office was ajar. Laughter drifted out from inside.
Faustus stopped in his tracks. A bitter, hard–to–explain knot twisted in his chest, leaving him speechless.
He and Silas were classmates. Back in school, his grades never matched Silas‘. But his background was better, his resources far
more abundant.
After graduation, thanks to his family’s connections and his own abilities, he walked straight into the Empire’s Imperial Security Agency, the very heart of power, without a second thought.
Silas, on the other hand, got into the Imperial Command Department, the place he had dreamed of. But without connections or resources, he was basically cannon fodder–always one wrong move away from being sent to die.
So back then, in front of Silas, he had always felt this innate sense of superiority.
People said Silas wouldn’t last a year in the command department. Everyone thought the same, and no one believed in him. Yet, in just a few years, the very person they had all looked down on quietly climbed to the top of power.
Now, their ranks might be roughly the same, but in terms of actual influence and the resources he could command, Silas had already far surpassed him.

And the irony didn’t stop there. Silas wasn’t just better at handling power. In matters of the heart, he was ahead, too, with a huntress who treated him better than anyone ever had.
Silas gets mad, and that little female doesn’t even look scared. She actually says he’s handsome.
Faustus took a deep breath, forcing down the swirling storm of emotions in his eyes. He cast one long, hard look at the half–closed door before spinning sharply and striding out.
Inside the room, Silas immediately noticed the absence of the presence outside the door. A cold flicker touched the corner of his mouth, but it vanished as quickly as it came.
He pulled a sleek gift box from his storage band and set it in front of Emma. His eyes were soft enough to drown someone. “I had this custom–made by the best designer, just for you, based on your tastes.”
Emma took the box and opened it. Her eyes lit up instantly. Inside was a flowing pale blue gown sprinkled with delicate gems, understated yet quietly luxurious.
“It’s gorgeous!” she exclaimed.
Silas opened the door to the break room in his office. “Emy, try it on and see if it fits.”
It had been tailored to her measurements, and he had several sets ready. If it didn’t fit, they could always swap it.
“Okay!” Emma hugged the gift box and stepped into the break room to change.
Watching Silas close the break room door, Malrik, still lounging on the sofa, munching on fruit, spoke slowly. “So what did you guys work out about Gaellard? How are we handling it?”
Gaellard came out of Beast God Mountain, so we’re not worried he’ll hurt innocents on Central Planet. But he’s targeting Emma and leaving him here as is? That’s a risk. We have to find a way to deal with him.
Marcus and Silas stayed silent, both looking at Kieran.
Kieran, holding Remy and leaning against the sofa, sighed when he saw all three of them staring at him. “I asked Beast God. He said as long as those guys don’t hurt Emma, he won’t interfere.”
So that old male’s plan isn’t just to stay out of Gaellard’s business. He actually wants Emma to take care of them, handle the trouble for him.
Marcus rolled his eyes in disbelief at that.
