Nine Hot Therians and Their Only One Queen novel Chapter 709

ter 709 The Price of Talking

Jim fell silent again. So tiring.

Emma watched him holding back his words, and for some reason, it unexpectedly made her want to laugh. Walking with me feels exhausting? Answering my questions is exhausting, too?

Jim answered without hesitation, Yes.

Emma finally laughed and asked, Is your beast form a capybara or a sloth?

She tilted her head slightly as she looked at him, clearly amused by his behavior of doing nothing all day and barely moving at all.

Jim stayed quiet. What is a capybara? And what is a sloth? Neither sounds like an impressive beast. I’m certainly not one of those. I’m

smart.

Seeing him refuse to respond, Emma pressed on, If you’re tired, you can send me back. Then you wouldn’t have to walk with me or answer my questions. Wouldn’t that solve everything?

Jim’eplied immediately, No.

Emma paused. Huh? That answer comes quickly.

Fine. She nodded calmly. Since he refused to send her back, he would just have to keep walking with her until he wore himself

out.

After taking a few steps, Emma asked again, her curiosity growing. What is your beast form? You’re so lazy. I’ve never heard of a beast that lazy.

Every therian had instincts tied to their beast form. Emma couldn’t imagine what kind of beast could be this lazy, especially when ne could move so incredibly fast whenever he wanted to.

Jim looked at her but said nothing, showing he had no intention of replying.

Emma pressed on without surrendering, Fine. If you refuse to say that, then teach me something else. How do you move so quickly?

The more Jim avoided speaking, the more she was eager to coax answers from him. Some part of her even thought he might finally give in and send her away just to escape the constant questions.

lim suddenly halted his walk.

He turned his head to Emma, seemingly pondering how to explain himself concisely.

After a few moments, he finally spoke, Talent.

Emma blinked. Talent can’t be taught, which means I can’t learn it either. So he’s basically saying he won’t teach me.

Whether that had been Jim’s intention or not, Emma chose to interpret it exactly that way.

Hmph! She shot him an annoyed glare.

Jim looked confused.

1/3

Emma’s sudden glare clearly caught him off guard, and he realized she was unhappy with his answer.

After a brief pause to think, he halted once more, faced her, and clarified, It really is talent.

Emma stared at him intently, her fists tightening.

She exhaled slowly while looking at the handsome therian whose expression seemed to say, I’m telling the truth. Why won’t you believe me?

For a brief moment, Emma had the urge to jump up and punch that handsome face. The thought disappeared just as quickly when reason took over. She knew perfectly well that she would lose.

Jim might appear easygoing and had agreed to almost everything she asked so far, but he was still the powerful figure who had taken her away from under Kieran’s nose without making a sound. If she struck him and he struck back, the outcome would definitely not favor her.

For the sake of her own safety, Emma forced herself to swallow her frustration. Physical violence was clearly not an option.

Mental torment, however, was a different matter.

Since he hated talking because it tired him out, Emma decided she would simply make him talk.

Her eyes brightened as she approached, a joyful smile on her face. Alright. Talent it is.

She gently patted his shoulder. That topic is finished. Let’s discuss something else.

Jim fell silent. More talking?

His expression showed clear discomfort.

Emma’s smile widened as she asked, If the Beast God selected you as an heir, your talent must be extraordinary, right?

Jim responded with a simple sound, Mm.

Emma kept walking beside him. With talent like that, could you defeat Gaellard and Clarence?

Jim gave the same response. Mm.

Emma blinked. The way he answered made him sound less like a person and more like a simple answering machine. Even a machine would probably give a few more words than that.

What about Andre? She continued walking and asked another question, Who is stronger, you or him?

Kieran had once mentioned that, among their group, aside from Jim, the strongest was Andre.

Jim finally gave a slightly longer answer. Haven’t fought.

Emma tilted her head. Why not?

Jim looked at her, and several seconds went by in silence. It was clear he didn’t want to respond, as talking seemed to require effort.

Emma’s glare returned.
