Chapter 708 Nightfall on the Barren Planet
“What a rare sight.” Gaellard let out a low sigh before turning to Kieran. “Can you sense Emma’s exact location? Should we charge in, or move quietly?”
Kieran stayed motionless, his face shaded with the intensity of a brewing storm. He shut his eyes, attempting once again to sense the pull of the Merfolk pearl. Still, there was no response.
A moment later, he opened his eyes again and slowly shook his head. “My connection to the Merfolk pearl is gone.”
Gaellard froze. “Gone?”
“As soon as we arrived here, I lost the pearl’s signal,” Kieran stated with a cold, angry tone. “Emma is still on this desolate planet. I’m sure of it.”
Gaellard spat on the ground after hearing that.
“It has to be that tight–lipped Jim.” His teeth clenched. “No one else fits. He must’ve employed some trick to block your connection to the pearl.”
Jim might not talk much, but he clearly had more than a few tricks up his sleeve.
As they conversed, a sudden gust of wind swept through the sky.
Moments later, a tall figure descended from above and stood before them, heat emanating from his body.
Lucien had arrived.
He had diligently tracked Kieran’s trail, exerting himself throughout the journey. After a long rush, he finally caught up.
The moment he saw Kieran, Lucien asked, “Did you find Emma’s location?”
Kieran shook his head and briefly explained what had happened. “We can confirm Emma is on this barren planet, but I can’t sense where exactly she is.”
Without the connection to the Merfolk pearl, finding someone on a planet this large would not be easy.
Lucien’s expression darkened. “Then we’ll use other methods. I’ll contact Calum and have Corvin brought here.”
On this desolate planet, the lightcore showed no signal. Lucien used a specialized military communicator to contact Calum.
Given the tall buildings in the distance, the planet likely had its own communication infrastructure. Once Corvin arrived, he would be able to leverage these systems to locate Emma.
The only small comfort for Lucien was knowing Emma was somewhere on this planet, at least not lost in the wilderness with Jim.
Emma slept deeply.
When she opened her eyes again, night had already fallen outside.
The room was quiet.

Occasionally, the wind howled past the buildings beyond the window.
Her stomach growled loudly.
Emma retrieved a vial of nutrient fluid from her storage and drank it. Afterward, she went to the bathroom, splashed water on her face, and felt significantly more alert. She then changed into a simple, comfortable outfit, opened the door, and made her way
downstairs.
The living room lights were out.
Cold moonlight poured through the large floor–to–ceiling windows.
Even without the lights, Emma could see everything clearly.
Jim sat on the couch with his back straight, motionless like a statue.
Emma recalled that he had been in the same position when she went upstairs earlier. A strange idea occurred to her. Has he been sitting there the entire afternoon?
Hearing footsteps on the stairs, Jim tilted his head a little and looked her way, remaining silent.
Emma hadn’t expected him to begin speaking at all. She hurried down the stairs and paused in front of him. “I want to go shopping.”
She lifted her wrist and checked her lightcore, but there was still no signal. Her face showed complete frustration.
“There’s no signal here at all. I can’t play anything or even browse the web.”
She gestured toward the empty villa, clearly annoyed. “Your house just has furniture–no decent TV or anything fun missing.”
For someone who loved nightlife, this place felt unbearably dull.
Emma looked at Jim as if she had already made up her mind. “I’m not sleepy anymore. Take me out for a walk.”
Jim looked at her for a moment before standing up.
After a day together, Emma had already come to understand his actions.
When he stood up, she knew he had given his approval.
She quickly turned and headed for the door.
