The police quickly lifted Vivian to her feet and led her away. Bright red blood stained the shiny floor, spreading with every step she took.

Her snowwhite formal gown was soaked in blood. Pain drained all color from her face, leaving her unable to utter a single word.

Eric Carter didn’t spare her a single glance. He turned to me again, anxious, pleading for another chance.

But I felt nothing at all. My voice was even colder. Eric, even if you died, I might still never forgive you!

He froze, helpless tears streaming down his face.

A police officer stepped forward, cuffs in hand.

Eric Carter, you are suspected of aiding and abetting, as well as bribing someone to take the blame. You are under arrest.

The police took Eric away. He kept turning back, his eyes pleading. Madeline, I’ll pay for everything I’ve done. When I get out, I’ll earn your forgiveness with actions.

Everything else, I handed off to my lawyer.

Vivian lost the baby. Whatever hope she had of using her pregnancy to escape her sentence vanished.

Six months later, the case went to court.

The Carter family kept sending people to ask for a settlement, hoping I’d sign a forgiveness agreement. My exmotherinlaw even knelt before me, begging me to forgive her son.

Their stock price plummeted, and business partners ended their cooperation one after another.

Now, the Carters were on the verge of bankruptcy.

I didn’t pity them. I refused to settle.

Vivian was sentenced to twenty years in prison. Eric received a twoyear sentence due to lack of direct intent.

I took my son and moved to another city. He grew up happy, even without a father.

Two years later, I ran into Eric againsomething I never expected.
