Chapter 9
After saying all this, I walked right up to Eric and held my phone high, making sure the livestream audience could see everything.
His expression shifted in seconds–from thunderstruck to crumbling under the shock of the truth, until his eyes finally reddened with guilt.
I slapped the paternity test against his chest. “If you don’t believe it, you can do another test yourself!”
“I believe you. I do, Madeline, I’m sorry. I really didn’t know.” His apology was desperate, his eyes full of guilt.
“Madeline, why didn’t you tell me? It’s all my fault. But our son is innocent. He needs a father.
“I truly didn’t expect things to turn out this
A
way.”
I let out a cold snort, my voice sharp with icy sarcasm.
“I ignored you for three years because, to me, you were already dead!
“Only when you stop loving someone can you be so indifferent–care about nothing at all! Eric, I gave up on you a long time ago!
“The only reason I’m divorcing you now is because of a promise made when we married.”
“Our families agreed that if a close relative died, neither of us could marry or divorce for three years. Otherwise, do you think I would have tolerated you this long?”
When he heard me say I stopped loving him long ago, Eric’s face twisted in pain. He looked shattered, regret written all over his face.
“Madeline, I was wrong. Just give me one last chance, please? Even for Lucas’s sake, please, one more chance. Let’s get back together.
“I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you and our son. I’m begging you, please.”
I turned my phone, showing everyone on the stream his desperate, pleading face.
“Eric, you will never have my forgiveness! Leaving a serial cheater like you fortune!
“Aren’t
you
in love with Vivian? What, now you don’t love her anymore?”
is my greatest
Vivian stood off to the side, frozen and at a complete loss, too frightened to react.
That was until the police arrived. One of them stepped forward, pulling out a pair of silver handcuffs. “Vivian Reed, you are suspected of intentional homicide. You are under arrest ”
