Chapter 6
“Mom, it hurts… it hurts so much.”
Lucas cried out in pain, pressing his tiny head against my neck.
I tried talking to him, but before I finished, he passed out in my arms.
“Baby, I’m taking you to the hospital right now.” I shook his shoulder, only then noticing the explosion had torn his shoulder open, leaving it a bloody mess.
Agony ripped through me.
I didn’t care about talking to the police anymore. I had to rush my son to the hospital.
The doctor told me his skin was infected, and there were explosion wounds–his heart was nearly hit. Lucas would have to stay in the ICU for observation.

My chest tightened as I watched him through the glass, aching so much I wished I could take his pain for him.
A cold, knife–like voice cut through the silence behind me. “So, looks like you really care about the other man.”
At that moment, my chest filled with hate.
I turned around, and our eyes met. His gaze was icy and hard, burning with jealous rage and wounded pride.
I stared back at him and felt nothing but pure hatred.
“Who is that man?”
Eric stepped closer, crowding in, eyes locked on mine, burning with demand.
“Tell me! Who is that man?”
He grabbed my chin, and for a second, his eyes went red.
I took in every broken piece of him, every sign that he might actually fall apart. He never loved me, yet now he looked ready to break–why? What did he want to prove?
I shoved his hand away, my voice freezing cold. What makes you think you have the right to question me?
“You could betray me. Why can’t I do the same to you?”
In Eric’s mind, it meant I admitted to cheating on him.

His gaze trembled, like his heart had just shattered. He wiped tears away, trying to steady
himself.
He turned away for three seconds, then faced me again, his voice like iron. “So, you said that man’s dead, right? Fine. Here’s your last chance.
“I’ll accept this bastard as mine. But from now on, you better behave yourself!”
I let out a bitter laugh, unable to hold back my fury.
Did he really think he was being generous? Did he actually believe loving me was some kind of favor?
My cold laughter cut straight through his pride.
Eric’s brow furrowed as he stared at me. “What’s so funny?”
“I’m laughing at how pathetic you are!”
His scowl only deepened.
Just then, I heard footsteps approaching. I turned to see the police coming closer.
I hurried over to them.
“Excuse me, has Vivian been arrested?”
One officer answered, “Vivian wasn’t the one who started the fire with the fireworks.
“It was her nanny. The nanny has confessed, and here’s her statement.”
The words hit me like lightning. I grabbed the written statement and read it carefully.
