Chapter 7
I laughed at myself, bitter and sarcastic. It was hard to believe this was the man I once loved with all my heart.
It all started in freshman year, when Eric fell for me at first sight and chased after me relentlessly.
By senior year, I finally said yes. In our last year, there was a fire in the girls‘ dorm. Thinking I was trapped inside, he rushed in recklessly, nearly losing his life.
I never expected someone could love me that much. Bit by bit, my heart melted for him.
When we were together, he doted on me. He always did whatever I wanted.
But just one year after we got married, he started cheating again and again. Slowly, he turned into the person I hated most.
And now, a child’s life–he treats it like it’s nothing!
“Eric! Fine, for my son, I’ll take you to court!”
He just let out a laugh, as if I were being ridiculous.
He pointed at Lucas in the ICU. “All this for that little bastard in there?”
He scoffed, full of disdain, as if I’d lost my mind.
Right then, his phone rang. He took it out–the caller ID showed “my wife“.
He picked up the call right in front of me. “Honey, I just finished talking to the officer. Don’t worry, it’s already over.”
I heard Vivian’s fragile voice come through the line. “Eric, I was so scared. I’m glad you believe I didn’t mean it. Come home, okay? Our baby’s making a fuss in my belly.”
“Okay, I’ll be there soon. Be good and wait for me.”
He hung up, his face turning cold again.
He glanced at me, and let out a deep sigh. “Stop it, You know I love Vivian, and I love you, too. If you stop making trouble, we could be together forever.”
I wanted nothing more than to spit in his face.
Just then, my new lawyer called. I answered as Eric walked away.
“Yes, we have to make this matter as big as possible.”
Chapter 7

While giving my lawyer instructions, I suddenly remembered–there was a drone stuck in the biggest plane tree near the villa.
I’d put a tiny surveillance camera in it once, back when I played outside with my son, just to capture better views.
It had ended up in the tree by accident, and I’d never bothered to get it down.
That thought made me jump into my car and drive straight back to the villa.
And sure enough, I found the drone.
I pulled out the tiny camera and watched the entire video in my car, from beginning to end.
My fists clenched tighter and tighter as I watched–hatred surged inside me, as if it could burst out at any moment.
Just then, my phone buzzed. It was a message from Vivian.
