Chapter 716 Dragged Out
The moment Lenny finished speaking, the sound of coordinated footsteps came from the entryw
The front door swung open, and a line of black-suited security personnel entered in an organized formation.
Lenny had positioned these operatives near Amelia’s home in advance, keeping them out of sight so as not to disturb her recovery.
Kennedy and Clara had never faced anything remotely like this. They pressed themselves into the corner off the couch, clinging to each other and shaking.
Kennedy still tried to force himself to act tough, his voice breaking as he pointed a finger. “What do you think you’re doing? This is a civilized country! I’ll call the police!”
“You entered my daughter’s home uninvited, threatened her, and made demands.” Lenny’s voice carried absolute flatness of a man who had already made every relevant decision. “I’m removing the problem. That’s entirely within my rights as her father. Unless you’d prefer to be carried out rather than walk.”
He didn’t wait for a response. He gave the lead bodyguard one sharp look.
The security team moved immediately, lifting Kennedy and Clara off the floor with the unhurried efficiency of people who had done more complicated things before breakfast. Both of them shrieked and flailed as they were marched toward the door.
Just as they were about to be removed from the house, Lenny spoke again, and the temperature in his voice had dropped to something final.
“Tell Beatrice that the matter of her sending Hannah to impersonate my daughter is something I’ll be addressing with her personally. At a time of my choosing.
“And neither of you should entertain any further ideas about extracting anything from Amelia. That said, I’m a fair man. Given that you did at least keep her fed during those years, if your family collapses entirely and you find yourselves without enough to get by, I’ll arrange a basic monthly allowance in Amelia’s name. You won’t starve. That’s all you’re getting.”
It was a perfectly calculated humiliation, delivered without raising his voice or changing his expression.
It took every remaining shred of their dignity and their greed and ground both into the floor.
The sobbing and pleading faded as the security team took Kennedy and Clara out of the building, and the living room returned to stillness.
Amelia and Mason looked at each other. The surprise in both their expressions was real.
Neither of them had quite expected Lenny to handle things with that particular brand of efficiency.
Lenny, however, was not finished.
He turned a sharp look onto Mason, and the displeasure there was unmistakable. “Why are you letting people like that through the door at all? She’s recovering. She doesn’t need this kind of disruption.”

Mason received this with the equanimity of someone who had already accepted the arrangement of things He nodded in agreement. “You’re absolutely right. I’ll make sure it doesn’t happen again!
Meanwhile, Kennedy and Clara stumbled back to their house in a state of barely c
contained panic.
They called Beatrice the moment they got through the door, delivering an embellished account of every detail from the encounter at Amelia’s apartment.
On the other end of the line, Beatrice listenied, and her mind went completely blank.
She had not known that her plan had been seen through. She hadn’t known that Amelia had already reconnected with Lenny.
And hearing Lenny’s warning relayed back to her sent cold dread rushing through her system.
She got in the car and drove straight to Pedro.
Pedro, however, was already dealing with problems of his own.
He had assumed that running the Everett Group would be straightforward.
Watching Evan and Mason manage it had made it look almost effortless. What he discovered after actually taking the helm was something very different.
Mason’s ability to run the Everett Group as smoothly as he had was inseparable from the vast, quietly maintained business network he controlled personally.
Whenever the Everett Group needed liquidity, or resources for a new expansion, or leverage in a difficult negotiation, Mason had always been able to supply it from somewhere. The whole operation had functioned because of infrastructure that existed entirely outside the official company structure.
Pedro had inherited none of that.
What he had taken over was a polished exterior wrapped around serious structural problems, and his own connections and capabilities were nowhere near sufficient to keep a machine of that scale running.
Now, on top of everything, Beatrice was telling him that Amelia’s biological father had turned out to be Lenny, Porteria’s most powerful figure.
