No Sex for Six Years Because of Her? I'm Done novel Chapter 717

Chapter 717 Won’t Happen

Beatrice’s warning landed on Pedro not as a call to action but as something bitterly ironic. He let out a short humorless sound.

“Relax” He pulled his arm free from her grip, and the exhaustion in his voice was complete. “Mason istr coming back.”

Beatrice heard that and processed it entirely wrong. The panic drained off her face and something bright and frantic replaced it.

do you mean? If Mason’s not coming back, you’re the permanent president of the Everett Group he best possible outcome!”

u, maybe.” Pedro pressed his fingers against his temple, where a dull, persistent pressure had take dence. The sheer narrowness of her thinking was its own kind of exhaustion. “For you it means your end has a bigger title. For me it means the nightmare has officially started.”

turned away from her and faced the window, looking out over the skyline, and when he spoke again his oice carried a defeat he hadn’t let himself fully acknowledge until this moment. “You think I won. I was completely outplayed. Mason saw what my grandmother was planning long before any of us moved. He spent that time separating his personal holdings from the Everett Group’s operations so cleanly that one has nothing to do with the other anymore.

“Us pushing him out, my grandmother using the Jewell marriage arrangement to pressure him, all of it was exactly what he needed. Now he gets to walk away from this family’s mess and build his own empire without anyone’s interference. We handed it to him. Every single one of us.”

He pointed at the dense, gleaming commercial center visible through the glass, and the frustration in his voice was raw. “In three years, the Everett Group in its current form might not even exist. But Mason’s name will only be getting bigger.”

Beatrice stood there with her mouth open and nothing coming out of it.

She had run through every scenario she could imagine. This one had never appeared in any of them.

Not much time had actually passed since Pedro had been standing in front of her, full of certainty, telling her he would bury Mason. And now he was the one sitting here acknowledging that he couldn’t hold a candle to either of the brothers he’d displaced.

She had attached herself to this man because she believed he would permanently outrank Mason and control the Everett Group’s future.

She had invested everything in that bet. She had convinced her family to pour money into it.

Watching Pedro surrender to the situation, Beatrice went cold all over, repeating quietly, “How did this happen? How did this happen?”

But even as she said it, something sharp and dangerous moved behind her eyes.

She wasn’t going to accept this.

Pedro, to his credit wasn’t built for prolonged self-pity. The frustration faded quickly, and his mind began

searching for exits.

He thought of Phoebe Jewell,

Lenny’s niece. There had been widespread speculation for years that since Lenny had no children, Phoche would inherit everything. She was connected to the family.

She might be useful.

He found his grandmother immediately.

“Grandma.” He didn’t bother with pleasantries. “You need to talk to Phoebe. Have her reach out to Lenny on our behalf. We need to stop the situation from getting any worse. We can’t afford to keep antagonizing him

The old woman listened, and when she spoke, two words came out. “You’re too late.”

“What does that mean?” Pedro felt his stomach drop.

She looked up at him, the cloudiness in her aged eyes carrying a particular kind of resignation, and let outa quiet breath. “Two days ago, after Phoebe found out that Amelia was Lenny’s missing daughter, she found an excuse and left the country. She’s probably already abroad by now.”

She paused, taking in the color leaving both their faces, and added without much inflection, “That girl has always been sharp. She knew she’d been involved with the two of you, and that some of what happened to Amelia had her fingerprints on it. She didn’t want to be anywhere near Eldoria when Lenny came looking for an accounting.”

Beatrice stared at the old woman, her voice gone dry. “She just left? She gave up on the Everett marriage arrangement?”
