Chapter 401 A Gift

Just as the awkwardness thickened, Tim, who had been smiling and watching the whole thing play out, finally stood up.

He let out a hearty laugh and raised his glass, effortlessly drawing everyone’s attention. Hey, it’s no big deal! One of them has to drive, and the other is probably allergic to alcohol. I’ll drink with everyone and make up for it!

I’m not driving today anyway. I can just catch a ride back with Mr. Everett later.”

Hearing that, everyone gladly took the easy way out and let the moment pass.

Seeing her husband acting like he was taking everything on himself, Lily shot him an annoyed look and warned, If you dare get drunk, don’t expect me to take care of you. I’ll just dump you at the front door and let you freeze.

Tim immediately leaned in close to her ear with a placating grin. Relax, honey. I know my limits.”

Facts soon proved that Tim’s promises were about as trustworthy as a drunk’s vow.

By the time the dinner ended, his cheeks were flushed bright red. He walked like he was stepping on cotton, swaying all over the place, barely managing to stay upright as Lily supported him.

Mason’s Maybach was parked at the hotel entrance. The doorman respectfully pulled the door open. Mason settled Amelia into the back seat, then turned and, with Lily’s help, forced the already rambling Tim into the passenger seat.

FireworksI want fireworks!Tim pointed at the dazzling city lights outside the window, slurring his words as he shouted, Honey, look, let’s go buy

Sitting behind him, Lily rubbed her temples in exhaustion. Irritated, she leaned forward and smacked the back of his head. Shut up! What fireworks? Those are office building billboards!

After taking the hit, Tim did not quiet down. Instead, he turned back with a wronged expression. His gaze was unfocused as he looked at Lily, then twisted around to peer at Mason and Amelia in the rearview mirror like a kid begging for praise. Mason, Amelia, be the judge. My wife is abusing me

Seeing him clown around like that, Amelia could not help but laugh.

She sneaked a glance at Mason beside her, who was focused on driving. Even though his eyes were on the road, the corners of his lips seemed to hold a hint of amusement as well.

Just ignore him. Let him make a fuss,Lily sighed and said to Mason. Just drop us off downstairs at our place. Sorry to trouble you.

Mason gave a low Mmin response.

The car moved smoothly along the city’s main roads late at night. Aside from Tim’s occasional dreamlike muttering, the only sound inside was the faint hum of the engine.

Tim’s place was not far. Soon enough, the car slowly came to a stop in front of the apartment building.

Lily unbuckled her seat belt and thanked Mason and Amelia.

Tim, we’re home. Get up!

Mason turned off the engine, unbuckled his seat belt, and walked around to the passenger side to open the door.

Thanks,” Lily said, sweat forming on her forehead. She shot a glare at her husband, who had already started leaning against Mason and mumbling, then waved at Amelia. Amelia, you two should head back and rest early, too. I’ll take you shopping another day.”

Amelia smiled and agreed, watching as Lily dragged Tim into the apartment building like a sack of rice. That retreating figure was full of helplessness, yet carried an intimacy no outsider could step into.

Mason closed the car door and returned to the driver’s seat.

The drive back to the Everett Residence seemed much longer than usual.

Neither of them spoke, but the silence was not awkward.

After 15 minutes, the car slowly pulled into the courtyard of Everett Residence.

The two of them entered the foyer one after the other and found Nora and Evan still awake, with Evan seated in his wheelchair, as if they had been waiting for them.

Mom, Evan, it’s so late. Why aren’t you resting?Amelia asked in surprise as she changed into slippers.

Evan was set to start needle treatment for his legs with Kaia the next day. By all logic, he should have gone to bed early to be in the best shape.
