Not just the Beta (Oriana and Slade) novel Chapter 213

Ana

She was up on the balcony of her suite with Zara the night before the full moon, sitting drinking coffee with her. Maddie had once again disappeared off into the woods. She wouldn’t tell anyone what it was about, but both she and Zara could see Palmer from up there, so it wasn’t her going off to be with him, though Maddie did often sit and talk to him in the evenings now, was allowing herself to grow that bond of friendship between them, which would likely turn into a mate bond,

There had been a pack barbeque this evening and though both she and Zara had been down there for it, she’d retried to her room when putting Ocean to bed. Her little girl was all tuckered out from running around with the other kids, including Lindal’s children and Sloan and Austin’s triplets.

Though the merriment was still going on down there, and Londyn was sitting with Yuri, happy on his lap, they were waiting on news of Lindal. She’d gone into labour two hours ago, she was going to give birth to the very first baby inside the Forest of Light.

She heard Zara sigh as she sipped the coffee as she sank down on a chair next to her “Our munchkin is out cold, I see.”

“Yes,” Ana nodded “When did you come up?”

“Just now. Vance was a little unhappy about it, but shrugged it off, the man can deal with it.” she snorted.

Maddie had bought and express shipped the beans they used in the café, to the pack, she’d not liked the coffee that was here inside the pack, and had muttered it tasted bitter and was burnt half the time. Had actually taken it upon herself to give a few barista lessons to those in the café downstairs, and helped out with the making of and serving of coffee. Ana had joined in and also helped out, it was kind of their thing. Maddie had made friends on her own by just offering to help out.

Ana had watched Slade put Ocean to bed before seeing him out of the suite. He’d looked right at her, and she’d shaken her head just a little, “Don’t do that. You can’t take anything those people say as truth.” She’d told him, had known what he was thinking because it was hard not to think about over the past week and a half. That they could be Mates.

He’d stared right at her for a long moment and then just told her quietly “It’s what I want, Ana. To be gifted to you, and you to I.” before stepping back from the door and walking away.

She’d been sitting out here by herself trying not to think about it, those words that came from Elise’s scroll about the two of them being Goddess Gifted Mates. Though she had not told any of her sisters that information, not even Maddie, but it had not gotten past Zara though, who was now sitting next to her likely feeling out everything Ana herself was feeling.

“The full moon is tomorrow, Ana,” Zara stated as casually as she possibly could.

“Mm and it will bring what is meant to be or not meant to be.” She nodded slowly, though her eyes drifted to Slade as he sat down there with his unit, it was meant to be?

They’d been separated on purpose, just like so many others inside this pack, but their separation had been done with the intention of seeing her hate him. So she’d never come back to this place. She saw his eyes move to hers, from all the way down there. He could feel her looking at him.

“He’s nervous.” Zara murmured and Ana turned to look at her “Just like you are.” She smiled at Ana.

“Only the full moon will tell Zara.” Ana reiterated as she leaned herself back in the chair and stared up at the nearly full moon and there was quiet for a long time.

She felt a mind-link connect with her from Zara, and turned to look at her curiously ‘He’s always listening, Vance… she chuckled ‘Wants me to slip up, and say something that will see him know he’s going to get what he wants… I’m in the same boat as you right now,” she sighed.

‘What do you mean by that?’ Ana frowned. ‘Explain that to me.”

‘I steadfastly refuse to try and Charm, Vance, regardless of the amount of times he tells me to…

Because it annoys me greatly when he tries to charm me. I don’t like it. He’s part Gamma. Jetta smelled him real good the day he walked into the café for the first time.”

Ana stared at her now ‘Really? You think he’s your Mate?’

‘I’m pretty darn certain he is.’ Zara nodded ‘He’s got a gypsy bloodline which sees him pull on that Gamma Charm without him realising it is a hybrid Beta/Gamma. He believes he’s Beta born, and technically he is due to his father’s rank, but being a gypsy, from the knowledge I have, he can actively pull on both bloodlines. I don’t think he knows this though. She chuckled softly.

‘Likely every single she-wolf or woman he’s bedded he’s charmed without realising it. It’s just who he is naturally, Zara shook her head a little ‘I did a little online reading over the past few weeks and

learned a fair bit about his bloodline, a free-spirited people who likes to wander.
