Once a Doormat Now Untouchable (Caleb and Sydney) novel Chapter 530

Chapter 530

Now it was Sydney’s turn to fuss over Agatha.

Tilting her head, Agatha studied Sydney’s face with fond amusement. The longer she looked, the more content she felt.

“Much better,” she said with a smile. “Give me another couple of days, and I’ll be ready to go shopping with you. Can you believe it?”

“I’ll check your ankle again before you go to bed tonight.”

They chatted lightly as they walked back into the villa.

During dinner, Sydney didn’t forget to place food on Agatha’s plate.

Not far away, Polly sat quietly, ready to help whenever needed. Watching them, she felt something stir inside her.

The once cold and lifeless house was slowly coming back to life-warm, peaceful, and full of the comfort she had nearly forgotten.

‘If only things could stay this way forever,’ she thought.

Agatha still didn’t know that Julian had gone abroad. After dinner, she turned to Polly.

“Check the time later and make some supper,” she said. “Don’t let those rascals come home hungry in the middle of the night.”

“Those rascals” was her affectionate nickname for Julian and his men, Elliot and Peter.

The Delta Mansion compound had two villas: the main residence and the guesthouse. Elliot and Peter usually worked in the main building during the day, returning to the guesthouse only at night. All their meals, including late-night suppers, were prepared in the main house.

Sydney dabbed her lips with a napkin and said softly, “Polly, just cook for Elliot and Peter. Julian’s on a business trip.”

“Alright,” Polly replied with a nod.

“A business trip?” Agatha feigned irritation, chuckling under her breath. “That brat. He used to tell me whenever he went anywhere. Now he only tells you.”

Sydney tossed her napkin in the trash and played along with mock outrage. “Don’t even get me started. He’s already on the plane and didn’t say a word to me. If Elliot hadn’t called, I’d still be in the dark.”

“What?” Agatha’s expression turned stern. “Just wait till he lands. I’m calling him myself to give him a piece of my mind!”

“That rascal. After all the trouble he went through to bring his future wife home, now he has

Sydney hadn’t planned to stay up until he landed, but when she lay in bed that night, no matter how she turned, sleep wouldn’t come.

Just as she was about to drift off, her phone buzzed on the nightstand.

She snatched it up and answered without checking the caller ID. “Hello?”

Her voice was soft and drowsy, still heavy with sleepiness.

On the other end came a brief silence, then a low, familiar chuckle. It was just one quiet laugh, but Sydney knew that sound at once-Julian.

‘At least he has a conscience, calling me the moment he got off the plane,’ she thought.

“Been waiting for my call?” His voice was smooth and deep, like dark wine over velvet.

“Yeah.” She nodded, curling deeper into the blanket. Her hand slipped to the empty side of the bed his side.

“You’re not here, and I can’t sleep,” she whispered, half-teasing, half-pouting.

‘Bad habits,’ she thought. ‘They form too easily. Just two nights apart, and I already can’t sleep without him.’

Through the phone, she heard the rush of wind and his voice, steady and low against it. “Good girl. I’ll be back in a couple of days. Sleep well, hmm? The baby in your womb needs. you rest, too.”
