Once a Doormat Now Untouchable (Caleb and Sydney) novel Chapter 659

That said, Raymond still waited outside the room for quite a while. Partway through, James received a call and rushed back to the company, leaving him alone.

Only after all the visiting relatives and friends had left did Raymond finally stroll in.

Diana sat to the side, peeling an apple. Albus lay in bed, his expression far from pleasant. Even at the sight of his favorite grandson, his face did not soften.

Raymond shot Diana a look. She ignored him completely. Her grip on the fruit knife remained steady as strips of apple peel fell into the trash, some thick, some thin, at an uneven pace.

She was clearly in no better mood.

Raymond walked to the bedside and flashed a grin. "What's wrong? Who had the nerve to upset you?"

Albus' expression turned cold. "You don't know who upset me?"

At first, Raymond truly did not. But the moment the question landed, it clicked. The smile faded from his face, yet he still played dumb. "Must be something someone said earlier. Who was it? I'll go deal with them."

"If your mother hadn't made a scene, would anyone have had the chance to say those things?"

Albus's displeasure toward Florence was now out in the open.

The night before, had they not been at Seraph Villa, where the staff answered more to Diana than to him, there would have been no such commotion sending him to the hospital.

Of course, he wanted to discipline Theodore. But family scandals should not be aired in public. No matter how muddleheaded Theodore had been, his reputation could not be ruined.

When they removed him from his position earlier, they told the outside world he was stepping back to care for his wife during her recovery.

Florence's actions had shattered that cover.

After a long pause, he let out a quiet sigh and looked toward Diana. "Aren't you going to say something to him?"

Only then did Diana lift her eyes. She finished peeling the apple, cut it into small pieces, and placed a fork with it before handing it over. "The doctor said to keep your diet light. Some fruit is fine."

She took a wet wipe from the housekeeper behind her and cleaned her hands. Then, under Albus' displeased gaze, she spoke in a calm, even tone. "Raymond didn't say anything wrong. What is there for me to correct?"

She continued, her voice softening slightly, "Grandpa, my mother wants to protect Vee. You want to protect my father. At the core, it's the same. She isn't wrong. As for you…"

She paused briefly.

Albus looked at her. "You think I'm wrong?"

"You're my elder. I wouldn't dare say that." Diana tossed the wet wipe into the trash. "But I do think this is unfair."
