Chapter Twenty
Damon smiled as he gently laid Jess on her bed. The little girl had fallen asleep in his arms an hour ago, but he had refused to take her to her room. Work and werewolf duties had consumed so much of his time lately that he barely got to spend enough moments like this with her. He wanted to make up for the lost time.
However, Jess had grown tired and drifted off quickly.
After what felt like forever, Damon finally decided to put her to bed as it was getting late.
“Have sweet dreams, sweetheart.” He whispered, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead.
Almost immediately, his phone buzzed and Blake’s call came through.
Damon stepped out of the room and clicked the answer button, bringing the phone to his ear.
“Yes, Blake.”
“You were right, Sir. It really is Mrs Amber and she owns MPK!”
Damon frowned. “Tell me something I don’t already know!
“Sorry Sir.”
“Around the time she disappeared, she reunited with her friend. A man named Marcus who was an heir to the crescent moon pack at the time. He helped her come to Australia, wiped off her old records and changed her identity. She chose to maintain her first name but changed her last name completely. That was why it was hard to track her before.”
“That bastard!” Damon muttered, his frown deepening.
“With Marcus help, she was able to build MPK from scratch Since then, she’s traveled to countries like China, Russia, and the UK, negotiating deals and gathering resources. She’s now one of the most respected CEOS in her field and known to be very competent.”
“And she currently lives in her new home here in New York with her son.”
Damon froze. “Her son? She has a son?”
“That’s right Sir. Mrs Amber has a son.”
“You bastard! You must have investigated the wrong person!” Damon yelled.
“I didn’t make a mistake sir. Mrs Amber truly has a son!”
Damon’s heart dropped. How could that be possible? Had she borne another child within the six years they were apart?
“Are you sure she she has a son?” He asked again, disbelief etched in his tone.
“Yes sir. His name is Jason and he’s five years old. From what I found, he’s incredibly smart and top of his class. Mrs Amber loves him dearly.”
“No. No, no!! It’s impossible. It can’t be.” Damon shook his head even though Blake couldn’t see him right now.
“I know it’s a lot to take in Sir, but it’s the truth.”
“But I didn’t find a ring on her finger.”
“Mrs Amber isn’t married sir, that’s why you didn’t see a ring on her finger. But she indeed have a son!”

Damon dragged a hand through his hair, his mind clouded with pain and regret. How could this happen? How could Amber have another child while their daughter was here with him? How dare she? They had already lost one child for God’s sake! The midwife had told him the baby in Amber’s arms was too weak and wouldn’t survive the night. That’s why he had not taken him… so how could she go on to have another?
“Are you sure the boy wasn’t adopted? I swear to God, Blake, if I find out this information is wrong, I’ll ruin you!” Damon bellowed, his alpha tone seeping through.
“I’ve never failed you, sir. The information is accurate. Mrs. Amber did not adopt.”
“What’s his name again?”
“Jason Lane Blackwood!”
“Jason.” Damon repeated under his breathe. “Do you have any pictures of him?”
“Sadly I don’t sir. I tried everything to find one, but it’s like he doesn’t exist online. Whoever Mrs. Amber hired to protect his identity did an excellent job. Even I can’t trace him.”
“Damn it!” Damon cursed, nearly crushing the phone in his hands.
“I will keep trying to get a picture sir. In the meantime, I’ve sent you her current address and other details.”
“I will look into them later. Thank you Blake.” Damon said flatly.
“You’re welcome Sir.” Blake hung up.
Damon stood there in front of Jessie’s door, raking his fingers through his hair again.
“Fuck…” he muttered under his breath.
He lowered his head in shame, his chest tightening. He didn’t even know what to feel anymore. His mind was a storm, overwhelmed with jealousy, anger, regret, pain – all blending into one unbearable weight. He remembered how jealous he’d been just seeing her talk to another man. The hatred that had burned inside him. But this… this was worse.
“What have you done, Damon?” he whispered. “You had a great woman by your side, and you let that bitch come between you. You ruined everything.”
In a sudden burst of rage, Damon smashed the glass panel beside him. Shards scattered across the floor as blood dripped from his hand. A second later, the wound closed, but the ache in his chest didn’t.
