Once His Mate Now His Rival (by Lord Browny) novel Chapter 29

Chapter Twenty Nine

That Same Night

At The Pack House

Wait Bels! Why are you in such a hurry?Moore called out the moment the car pulled up in front of the pack house. He stepped out quickly and caught up to her before she could walk through the entrance.

Why are you crying? He asked, lowering his voice. You know the pack can’t see you crying like this.He brushed away her tears, glancing around to make sure no one was watching.

You need to hold yourself together, Bels. I didn’t raise you to be weak. You’re the Luna, for God’s sake. What do you think the pack will say if they see you crying here like this?

Bella finally turned to face her father. Don’t tell me you didn’t hear what she said Dad? That bitch vowed to expose us. It’s obvious she knows our secret. She’s going to ruin us.

Is that why you’re crying? I can’t believe you’re falling for her bluff. That witch only said that to get under your skin. How could she possibly know our secret when you already got rid of the evidence?

Besides, even if she did try to expose us, no one would believe her. Damon already condemned her once, way the pack would take her word over his.

there’s no

How can you be so sure, Dad? You saw how rich she’s become. Amber’s changed. And it’s obvious she wants Damon back. It’s only a matter of time before she seduces him and once she does, she’ll tell him everything.

That’s why you need to act before she does. A child would seal your place. When are you planning on giving him one?

Oh please, don’t give me that look Bels. You’ve been married to him for six years and you still haven’t given him a child. Don’t you think it’s about time you did something? Or would you rather let that bitch have him instead?

Of course not, Dad.Bella snapped.

But Damon doesn’t even wanted to touch me. He barely talks to me these days. He doesn’t answer my calls or my texts. It’s impossible to get close to him. He spends every night with that little bitch.

Then think outside the box,Moore said coldly. Desperate times call for desperate measures. If you can’t get him the normal way, then get him another way. Drug him if you have to. I don’t care what method you use, as long as you get him to sleep with you. I didn’t raise my daughter to lose everything I worked for. I won’t go back to being a forgotten beta.

Bella’s eyes widened in disbelief. Drug him? How can you even say that, Dad? Damon’s the Alpha. Do you know what he’d do to me if he found out?

Besides, I can’t even get close enough to offer him a drink, let alone drug him.

I don’t care how,Moore replied, his tone ice cold. But we need to act fast. Having Damon’s heir is the only way to secure our position in this pack.

Yeah, I know that. I will try and think of something.

That’s my girl.Moore said, smiling. Now let’s head inside. It’s been a long night.

Bella nodded as they made their way into the pack house.

After making sure little Jess was sound asleep, Damon tucked her in and pressed a soft kiss on her forehead before stepping out of her room.

He walked to the couch and settled down before pulling out his phone and dialing a number.

What’s up man?Drake’s voice came through.

I’m fed up, Drake. She really doesn’t want me back.

You mean Bree? What happened?

I tried talking to her tonight. I apologize for everything and even confessed my love to her. But she just brushed me off like it meant nothing.

Is that why you sound like all hope is lost. You didn’t expect this to be easy, were you?

You don’t get it. I gave it my all tonight. But she wouldn’t even let me speak. She kept throwing my past mistakes at me like knives and treating me like I’m dirt. At this point I feel like kidnapping her just so I can make her listen.

Π

Whoa, whoa, easy, man.Drake chuckled nervously. I get where you’re coming from, but I will still advice you to be patient. Bree has every reason to be cold. You hurt her deeply in the past. No one heals from that overnight. Give her time.

Time is what I don’t have, Drake. What if I give her time and she moves on with that Marcus guy? I can’t stand losing her again.

And that’s exactly why you need to give her time,Drake countered. It’s been six years, Damon. You can’t expect her to forget all that pain in one night. You have to rebuild her trust.

I know, man. I justDamon exhaled heavily. “Everything’s falling apart lately, and I’m losing control. I guess I’m just fed up.

Whoa, man hold up. What do you mean everything? What’s been happening while I was away?

Damon sighed and rubbed his temples.

It’s the rogues. They attacked the pack house again.

Shit. I thought they stopped after the second attack.

No. They came back again after that. Tonight marks the eleventh attack in three months.

Damn it, Damon! Why the hell didn’t you tell me?Drake growled.

I didn’t want to ruin your honeymoon,Damon said quietly.

To hell with that,Drake snapped. I’m your beta before I’m anything else. You can’t keep this from me. Do you need me to come back? I could help with investigation and talk to Bree too. You know how close I was to her. Could be like killing two birds with one stone.

Damon fell silent for a while. The offer was tempting. Having Drake back would make things easier. He was the best fighter and strategist he had ever known. However, he had something more important in mind for him now.

No, Drake,Damon said firmly. I need you to stay where you are. I’ve got a hunch about who’s behind these attacks and I need you to confirm it for me.

Who?Drake asked.

Damon drew a deep breath. Magnus Vale. Find out if he’s still being held at Blackreach Fortress. My gut tells me he’s behind all of this.

Drake froze for a moment. That name alone was enough to send chills down any wolf’s spine. But he quickly composed himself.

Alright, Alpha,he said grimly. I’ll head to Blackreach and find out.

Thanks, man.Damon said, his voice low.

Anytime, Alpha.Drake replied before ending the call.

Damon lowered his phone and leaned back on the couch, closing his eyes.

He could only hope his hunch was wrong.
