Chapter Eight
Amber did her best not go beyond the speed limit, and after what felt like forever, she finally pulled up in front of the company.
Her secretary, Selene, was already waiting at the ground entrance.
“Good morning, Ma’am.” She collected her handbag and handed her a cup of coffee.
“Thank you.” Amber took a sip as they walked inside.
“The reports are ready, Ma’am. Business Development forwarded them first thing this morning.”
Amber’s brow arched. “What reports?”
“The one about the market analysis for the New York expansion,” Selene explained. “The partnership options, potential risks, and recommended contacts.”
Amber stopped in her tracks, then turned to face her secretary with a sharp frown. “You mean those reports?”
Selene nodded carefully.
‘What a coincidence‘ Amber thought. The first step of her plan had always been to expand into New York, where Alpha Damon was. It was the only way she could set her plans in motion and reclaim her daughter.
She had tasked BD with mapping out companies worth approaching, and though they had dragged their feet for weeks, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. Just as she’d made up her mind to begin her revenge, they dropped the files on her desk.
“Good. Have them sent to my office.”
Amber said and stormed towards the elevator. Selene hurried to keep up, wondering how anyone could move so
fast in heels.
Coming out of the elevator, Amber spotted Nathan waiting near her office. He was the head of Business Development at MPK.
“Oh, perfect,” she muttered under her breath. That saved her the trouble of digging through the reports herself.
“Good morning, Ma’am,” Nathan greeted as she approached.
“Morning, Nathan. Let’s step inside.” Amber unlocked her office and walked in. Nathan followed, while Selene placed Amber’s handbag on the desk and quietly slipped out, closing the door behind her.
“So, how can I help you, Nathan?” Amber said the moment she sat down.
“It’s about the New York expansion, Ma’am. The board reviewed our short list, and we’ve narrowed it down to two companies worth partnering with. A meeting has already been scheduled for today. I came to confirm if you’ll be available.” Nathan said as he approached, stopping a few inches away from the desk.
“That depends. What do we know about these two companies?”
“Business Development analyzed compatibility across financial strength, market positioning, and long–term strategy. The two strongest matches are Wayne Group and Cross Enterprise.” Nathan explained and Amber froze, her heart racing quickly in her chest.
“What did you just say, Nathan? Which companies?” she managed to ask.
“Wayne Group and Cross Enterprise, Ma’am,” Nathan repeated without hesitation, unaware of the sudden change in Amber’s expression.

“No… it can’t be.”
Amber mumbled, her heart twisting with rage and disbelief. Of all the companies in New York, his had to be on the
list.
Alpha Damon.
Fate couldn’t be this cruel, or was the Moon Goddess laughing at her misery yet again?
Amber wondered and was suddenly reminded of all the pain she’d gone through ever since the moon goddess binded her to that bastard.
She thought of the betrayals.
The months she’d spend locked in that wretched cell. And the agony of having her daughter forcefully taken away from her. Every scar Damon left on her soul burned anew.
She swallowed the bitterness gathering up in her chest. “Well, fuck the Moon Goddess and whatever game she’s playing.”
Amber mumbled and straightened in her chair.
“Proceed with the meeting. I’ll be there.” she said sharply.
Nathan blinked, then nodded quickly. “Yes, Ma’am. I’ll finalize the arrangements right away.”
An hour later, Amber was in her office buried in paperwork when a knock came at the door.
“Come in!” she called.
A second later, Selene entered, carrying a bouquet of fresh flowers. “From Mr. Marcus,” she murmured, setting them on the desk.
Just then, Amber’s phone buzzed on the table beside her. The name Marc lit up the screen. She drew a deep breath before answering.
“Hi, babe,” his warm voice greeted the moment the call connected.
“Hi, Marc,” Amber replied, her tone casual.
“What’s wrong, Bree? You don’t sound like yourself.”
“I’m fine.”
“Come on, I know you too well. Something’s bothering you Spill.”
Amber sighed, her shoulders sinking. “It’s about the New York expansion. The reports came in today and guess what? That bastard’s name was on the list.”
