Oops I Banged the CEO novel Chapter 189

How did he even find his way to the Hamilton Group, let alone track down her department?

“Yvonne, I can vouch for you to Mr. Hamilton. Your presentation drafts are just summaries for the meeting—entirely your own hard work,” Cedric said, his breathing ragged and quick. He looked flustered, clearly having rushed over.

Linda scoffed, utterly unimpressed. “So, you and Yvonne were classmates, and you even had a thing for her. Do you really think Mr. Hamilton will just take your word for it? Or buy into whatever story you two have cooked up? He’s not exactly sitting around twiddling his thumbs like the rest of you.”

She strode forward, grabbing her other work phone, ready to head back to the celebration banquet.

But as she stepped into the hallway, the elevator dinged—and out walked Marico, flanked by the legal team and several senior executives. They were here for her, and there was no escape.

“Linda, I might not have a lot of free time,” Marico’s cool, commanding voice echoed from the doorway, “but I’m certainly not foolish enough to let you lead me around by the nose.”

He was heard before he was seen.

Linda’s confidence crumbled in an instant. Just a second ago, she’d been gloating; now, her eyes widened in panic, and fear prickled down her spine.

Yvonne and Grace glanced toward the doorway as Marico and his entourage entered.

Yvonne, who’d been tipped off about this in advance, still put on a show of shock.

“Mr. Hamilton! You have to stand up for Yvonne! Linda never even brought the presentation draft—she shredded it! Then she ate something she knew she was allergic to and tried to pin the blame on Yvonne. Thank goodness Yvonne’s smart and quick-witted or the company could’ve suffered a huge loss. Linda’s so scheming and vicious!” Nydia blurted out, her voice bright and insistent as soon as she spotted Marico’s tall, sharp figure in the doorway. She launched into a tirade, desperate to clear Yvonne’s name and hold Linda accountable.

She’s finally going to get what’s coming to her!

Linda’s eyes widened in disbelief, the shock nearly knocking her off her feet. She felt as if she’d plunged from the heights of triumph straight into the abyss.

She cursed herself for letting her mouth run a moment ago.

But she was nothing if not seasoned. Glancing at the pile of shredded paper, she reasoned they’d never piece it back together. She quickly pulled herself together and responded coolly:

“Yvonne, I admit it—I didn’t like you, so I was showing off on purpose earlier. I’ll own that. But as for what you and this so-called expert are really up to? Only you two know the truth.”

With a single twist of words, she shifted all suspicion back onto Yvonne.

A master of sophistry, through and through.
