Linda shot her a glare, her eyes sharp and accusing.
It couldn’t be more obvious—she was kicking her while she was down.
The executives in the room grew uneasy, shifting in their seats. It was clear Linda was trying to muddy the waters, shirk responsibility, and maybe even drag down one of the company’s senior partners with her.
Marico finally spoke, his tone softening just a fraction. “You’ve been loyal for years. I’ll give you a chance.”
At those words, a flicker of hope returned to Linda’s eyes.
“I want to believe you. But if it turns out you were the one pulling strings behind the scenes, I won’t hesitate to have you arrested.”
His voice was quiet but icy, making Linda’s fragile hope evaporate instantly, replaced by a chill that settled deep in her bones.
“It… it wasn’t me,” she stammered.
“You’re sure about that?” Marico’s dark eyes narrowed, fixing on Linda’s still-reddened face, the rash from her allergic reaction not yet faded.
His gaze was so intense, so cold, Linda could barely breathe. She couldn’t muster a reply, only shook her head in fear.
“William, run a full investigation. I want answers before the end of the day.” Marico turned away, ending the conversation.
The situation was crystal clear now.
All that was left was hard evidence.
Everyone present weighed Linda’s actions in their minds, silently judging. Yvonne, too, finally allowed herself a quiet sigh of relief. It seemed the crisis was almost over.
“Mr. Hamilton, I watched Yvonne’s presentation live,” Cedric spoke up as Marico was about to leave. “She covered only the main points we agreed on in the meeting—nothing too detailed. Honestly, the fact she could pull off something so impressive under that kind of pressure is remarkable. I believe she’s not the type to scheme for personal gain.”
Yvonne bit her lip, realizing this was exactly what she’d warned Marico about—he needed to be more careful in public!
Now there was proof.
Marico’s eyes narrowed dangerously, a frigid edge to his glare that could cut steel. Linda felt her heart skip a beat, but she forced herself to press on.
“If you really need someone to take the fall, I’ll accept it. I’ll say it was all me—just give me another chance, Mr. Hamilton,” she pleaded, her tone both resigned and resentful.
It was a half-hearted confession, a performance that painted Yvonne as Marico’s favorite, while casting herself as the scapegoat.
Linda was gambling, hoping Marico would want to avoid any hint of favoritism toward Yvonne and go easy on her.
“You’re threatening me now? Is that it?”
