“Hey, just take a breather and have something nice to eat. I’ll take care of the rest of the work this afternoon.” Nydia didn’t press Yvonne any further, wanting to give her space to calm down and process everything.
Even Grace kept quiet, not daring to interrupt.
Yvonne pulled out her phone and stared at the message Marico had sent her.
At first, she was still fuming, but after reading it a few times, she couldn’t help but find it funny.
She’d been so fierce just now—she must have scared quite a few people.
There were only three of them left in the office—Yvonne, Nydia, and Grace—when, not long after, three more colleagues from Team 1 arrived, pushing a cart laden with cake and a selection of delicate pastries.
One colleague maneuvered the cart while the other two carried beautifully decorated cupcakes in sleek boxes.
The brand was unmistakable—one of those luxury patisseries known for their high-end afternoon teas.
Yvonne blinked in surprise. “Why’d you bring all this up here? Didn’t anyone say anything?”
“Yvonne, Mr. Hamilton knew you wouldn’t go to the celebration, so he told us to bring everything up to you,” one replied.
Seeing the spread, Nydia quickly tidied up Yvonne’s desk to make room.
Cindy and her teammate arranged the cakes neatly, even pulling over a neighboring desk so everyone could gather around for an impromptu party.
“Yvonne, we all saw the livestream earlier. Justice speaks for itself—everyone knows how hard you’ve worked. A lot of people believe in you.” Cindy finished and gave Yvonne a spontaneous hug.
The atmosphere was peaceful, warm.
Yvonne let out a soft sigh, feeling lighter. “Alright, let’s have some cake.”
“Yeah, let’s celebrate,” Grace chimed in, stepping up to start slicing the cake.
Yvonne stood, ready to shake off her funk and enjoy the moment.
Just then, the elevator chimed—a sound that echoed clearly across the quiet floor.
Everyone turned, curious.
To their astonishment, it was Marico, flanked by his chief assistant and a small entourage—more than a dozen people, far more than before.
“Linda’s bouquet was tossed by the HR director. This one is a special replacement—ninety-nine roses, a limited edition, selected personally by Mr. Hamilton,” the executive explained, standing beside Marico.
Yvonne was still processing it all, but Grace and the others were already abuzz with excitement.
As Marico approached, bouquet in hand, everyone in the room exchanged glances, eyes sparkling with anticipation.
“Yvonne, don’t just stand there!” Grace nudged the stunned Yvonne. “Mr. Hamilton’s giving you flowers—that’s never happened before!”
Yvonne set her cake fork down, looking a bit lost as Marico drew near.
This was different from the time he’d handed her flowers at city hall, almost as an afterthought. Now, he was doing it here, in front of everyone at work.
She felt nervous, even shy—her clear eyes fixed on him as he closed the distance, her fingers unconsciously curling. “Mr. Hamilton, you really didn’t have to…”
Gone was the fierce, unflappable woman from before; now, she looked almost like a schoolgirl with a crush—eyes downcast, a faint blush coloring her cheeks.
Luckily, thanks to everything that happened earlier, no one seemed to find Marico’s gesture suspicious.
“I’m sorry you had to go through all that,” Marico said gently. “Linda’s already submitted her resignation and will be dealing with it legally. I promise to see this through to the end. And I want you to know—I see all your hard work. This is what you deserve.”
