**Paths Lead To Purpose — Kevin Masters**
**Chapter 16**
Owen, oblivious to the sharp edge of mockery in her voice, leaned in with an eager nod. “Come on, Ophelia! Why not join me at Dunhollow University? It’s got the finest IT department in the whole country!” His enthusiasm was palpable, his eyes sparkling with the thrill of possibility.
The thought of Ophelia stepping into the hallowed halls of Dunhollow, representing the university in prestigious competitions, filled Owen with excitement. He envisioned her brilliance shining through, bringing not only accolades to herself but also elevating the university’s status in the academic world.
Ophelia, however, caught sight of Zoe’s smug expression and replied with an air of calm confidence, “What a twist of fate. The university I’m transferring to is indeed Dunhollow University.”
Zoe’s reaction was immediate; she froze, her face a canvas of disbelief painted with shock. “Dunhollow University? Ophelia, that’s not just some school you can waltz into! Even for my brothers and me, Dad had to personally plead with Mr. Blackwell for recommendation letters just to secure an interview.”
She continued, her voice rising with incredulity, “And even after that, it was up to us to prove ourselves worthy. You’re telling me you don’t even need an interview? You’re just going to enroll in two weeks? That’s absurd! Are you certain you’re not being taken for a ride?”
Victoria, her mother, felt a wave of concern wash over her. The thought of her daughter being deceived gnawed at her insides. “Ophelia, you mentioned meeting an old acquaintance today; please don’t tell me you were trying to pull strings for a spot at Dunhollow University?” Her voice trembled slightly, a mixture of worry and disbelief.
She continued, “So many students dream of getting in, and I’ve heard that transfer applications are notoriously difficult to get approved. Are you really sure the person you’re relying on is someone you can trust?”
Adrian, however, maintained a composed demeanor, his curiosity piqued. “Let’s hear Ophelia out first. I doubt she’s the type to place her faith in just anyone. Ophelia, who is it that’s assisting you with this transfer?”
Although Ophelia had only returned home for a mere two days, Adrian sensed a quiet strength emanating from her. She didn’t strike him as someone who could be easily misled.
Determined not to add to her parents’ worries, Ophelia chose to be forthright. “Mr. Blackwell, Connor Blackwell.”
The moment the name slipped from her lips, Adrian’s demeanor shifted; he froze as if struck by a bolt of lightning. When she elaborated with the full name, surprise flickered across his features, his disbelief palpable. “Connor?” he echoed, his voice tinged with incredulity.
