Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 2

**TITLE: Paths Lead To Purpose — Kevin Masters**

**Chapter 2: Help Requested**

The vehicle accelerated away from the Vossen residence, its tires humming against the asphalt as Samuel navigated the bustling streets towards the heart of the city, where Dunhollow Hospital awaited.

After a brief moment of contemplation, Ophelia broke the silence that hung in the air. “Samuel, would you mind taking me to Dunhollow Hospital first? I have something to deliver to a gentleman there.”

Each month, without fail, Ophelia made the journey to deliver newly developed medicine to the mayor’s father. Typically, she would send someone else to handle the task, but today, with her schedule unexpectedly light, she decided it was the perfect opportunity to check in on him personally.

Samuel raised an eyebrow, his curiosity piqued by her request, but he refrained from probing further. Instead, he simply nodded in agreement. “Of course, Ms. Rowle. Just try to keep it brief; Mr. and Mrs. Rowle are still waiting for you.”

“Understood,” Ophelia replied, a hint of determination in her voice as she settled back into her seat.

Moments later, the car came to a halt in front of the hospital, its imposing structure looming over them. Ophelia stepped out, her heels clicking against the pavement as she made her way directly to the VIP ward.

Inside, Connor Blackwell was not expecting her arrival. The moment his gaze landed on Ophelia, a broad smile broke across his face. “Hey, Ophelia! What a surprise to see you here in person today!”

It had been quite some time since he had last seen her; she usually sent someone else to deliver his medication.

Ophelia returned his smile with a gentle one of her own. “I had a bit of free time today. Besides, you should be almost fully recovered by now, right? I thought I’d come check on you myself.”

Connor’s face lit up with enthusiasm. “Absolutely! I’ve been feeling quite energetic lately. Does that mean I can finally go home?”

He obediently allowed her to begin her examination, eager for good news.

Nearby, Wyatt, who often accompanied Connor during his hospital visits, couldn’t suppress a sigh.

Once a fierce soldier, Connor had a reputation for his fiery temper and unwavering independence. Yet, whenever Ophelia was around, he transformed into the most compliant patient one could imagine.

Ophelia focused intently on her examination, nodding as she assessed his condition. “Your heart and lungs have nearly returned to full strength. If you complete this round of medication, you should be ready for discharge by the end of the month.”

Connor’s face beamed with joy. Years prior, he had suffered severe injuries on the battlefield, leaving him with lasting complications that had haunted him for years.

It was only through the ten-hour surgery Ophelia had performed, coupled with the specialized medicine she had prescribed, that he was even alive to share this moment.

“Ophelia, I owe you everything,” he said earnestly. “If you ever find yourself in need of assistance in Dunhollow, you can count on me. I’ll always have your back.”

Ophelia chuckled softly, appreciating his sentiment. “I’ll keep that in mind,” she replied, her heart warmed by his sincerity.

Over the years, she had saved countless lives, many belonging to the elite of Dunhollow. However, to avoid the manipulations of the Vossen family, she had chosen to remain in the shadows.

But as her business expanded, she knew that the time would come when she would no longer need to hide.

At that moment, as Ophelia withdrew her hand from his examination, a sudden uproar erupted outside the ward.

Connor, unable to contain his curiosity, perked up immediately. “Come on, Ophelia! Let me walk you out.”

Ophelia caught the mischievous glint in his eyes and shook her head, exasperated. “Connor, your heart is still delicate. You shouldn’t be exerting yourself. Try to avoid unnecessary excitement.”

But Connor only grinned wider. “It’s dreadfully boring being cooped up in here all day. I heard a big shot was admitted next door; they cleared the entire floor this morning. I’m dying to see who it is—maybe I even know him!”

Before Ophelia could voice her concerns, Connor clasped his hands behind his back and strolled towards the door, his excitement palpable. Wyatt let out a resigned sigh and followed, while Ophelia reluctantly trailed behind.

As they stepped into the corridor, they were met with the sight of a hospital bed being wheeled toward the adjacent ward. Connor’s eyes widened in recognition. “Hey! Zachary? What happened to you?”

Zachary Caldwell, lying on the bed, looked up and immediately recognized Connor. However, his face paled, and his breathing became labored, indicating that his condition was dire.

Ophelia’s instincts kicked in. She leaned closer to Connor and asked softly, “Is he a friend of yours?”

Connor nodded quickly, concern etched across his features. “Yeah, we fought side by side on the battlefield. He’s my brother-in-arms. Zachary, what’s going on with you?”
