Ophelia Gets Thrown Out (Ophelia) novel Chapter 88

Chapter 88

Chapter 88

Ophelia’s bluntness always left her feeling cornered and speechless.

But she had to swallow her anger and keep up her sweet, accommodating act.

Putting on a concerned face, Zoe said, “I should get back to my seat. Let me know if you need anything around school. I’d be happy to show you the ropes.”

Ophelia shot her a skeptical look, a hint of amusement in her eyes.

‘Daphne calls Zoe spineless?’ she thought. ‘At least Zoe knows how to read the room.’

“Alright, settle down, everyone.” Jameson’s voice cut through the chatter. “Jaxon, go check on Daphne. The rest of you, let’s begin.” The classroom fell silent.

Zoe sat at her desk, her mind elsewhere.

The day’s events had left her reeling, each revelation more unsettling than the last. With every encounter, she felt herself shrinking in Ophelia’s shadow.

Her jaw tightened almost imperceptibly as her expression darkened.

The opening ceremony concluded without further incident.

After dismissing the class, Jameson was the first to leave.

Ophelia quickly organized her belongings and followed suit.

“Ophelia…” Zoe called after her, but received no response.

Ophelia had no interest in indulging Zoe’s performance any longer.

Zoe gritted her teeth in frustration as her gaze fell upon Daphne’s vacant seat. Without another word, she turned and strode from the classroom, her expression darkening.

At the school gate, Ophelia immediately hailed a cab. She had arranged to meet Ella and visit the company together.

Within minutes, Ophelia entered the designated café.

“Over here, boss!” Ella waved enthusiastically from a corner table.

Ophelia acknowledged her with a subtle nod and joined her at the table.

Noticing Ophelia’s school backpack, Ella grinned. “If the board members saw you like this, they’d probably have a heart attack.”

The old executives had always imagined their mysterious owner as a middle-aged business magnate, never expecting a young woman at college.

Ella couldn’t suppress a smug smile, already imagining the board members’ stunned expressions when they finally met the real mastermind.

Rolling her eyes, Ophelia dropped her backpack onto the seat and sat down. “Let’s focus,” she said, her tone all business.

Ella arched an eyebrow with smug satisfaction. “The Vossens’ funding has been completely pulled. They’re in absolute shambles, though apparently not ready to throw in the towel just yet, scrambling for a lifeline.”

“A lifeline?” Ophelia’s lips curved in a derisive smile. “Do they even have that kind of leverage?”

Had there been a single competent soul in that family, she wouldn’t have been bankrolling them from the shadows all these

years.

“Not on their own, certainly.” Ella shrugged, then tipped Ophelia a meaningful glance. “Word is they’ve cooked up two contingency plans, both involving you.”

“Me?” A faint crease formed between Ophelia’s brows, her demeanor icing over.

Audacious indeed, that they’d dare draw her into their schemes.

“Cameron’s already digging into your connection with the Rowles,” Ella continued. “And Carter’s been hounding me daily, demanding to meet Rowan, which, as we know, is you.”

or discretion. The alias had served her well,

allowing her to build a respected financial firm and later channel funds to the Vossens without revealing her true self.

Now that the financial support had dried up, Carter was desperate to confront the mysterious benefactor.

Ophelia listened with detached calm, completely unsurprised.

The Vossens’ sense of entitlement and parasitic nature made their reaction predictable.

This was why she had maintained her anonymity, knowing they would drain her dry if they discovered her true identity.

“Don’t worry about Carter. I’ll handle him. The Vossen Group’s days are numbered anyway.

“But if Cameron digs up your ties to the Rowle family, he’ll be all over you like a bloodhound.” Ella’s voice held genuine concern, her disdain for the Vossen family simmering beneath the surface.

“Let him try,” Ophelia replied dismissively. After all, the Vossens were nothing compared to the Rowles.

Seeing Ophelia’s confidence, Ella nodded in relief. “Just making sure you’re prepared. I’m not worried about them hurting you. It’s the constant pestering I can’t stand. They’ll ruin your peace if we let them.”

A softness warmed Ophelia’s expression at Ella’s concern. “I’ll keep my guard up.”

“Oh, and one more thing.” Ella produced a folder. “This is about Chloe’s nephew. They haven’t spoken lately, but she paid his way through school. My guess is they’re still close.”
