Chapter 94
Chapter 94
Chloe and Zoe were certainly sparing no effort in making her life difficult.
Only after Ophelia had disappeared up the stairs did Chloe finally release a breath she seemed to have been holding, pressing a hand to her chest as if to calm her nerves.
“What happened?” she whispered urgently to Zoe. “How did she return completely unharmed?”
The sight of Ophelia had given her a genuine fright.
“I don’t know,” Zoe replied, her voice thick with frustration. She, too, was struggling to comprehend how Ophelia had emerged completely unscathed.
“To survive a car accident without a scratch. How is she so fortunate?” Chloe frowned, sensing something was profoundly amiss. It defied all logical expectations.
Zoe felt a pang of regret. To maintain deniability, she’d instructed their driver to accelerate away too quickly to witness the actual outcome.
Noting Zoe’s darkened expression, Chloe sought to console her. “Don’t lose heart. I’ll find out what went wrong. Even if this attempt failed, there will be other opportunities. I’ll help you achieve what you deserve.”
“Very well,” Zoe replied tonelessly, her gaze lifting toward the upper floor with smoldering intensity.
She refused to believe Ophelia’s luck would hold indefinitely.

Night had fallen, the city lights glittering against the deepening dusk, when Ophelia awoke from her nap to the sound of her phone ringing.
As she recognized the number, a faint, derisive smile touched her lips.
‘How eager they are. Did they discover something already?’ she wondered.
She answered with deliberate languor. “What is it?”
She was curious to see what tactics Cameron would employ this time.
“Ophelia.” Cameron’s voice was uncharacteristically warm, laced with a placating tone.
“Just say what you want, Cameron.” She had no patience for his games. Her reply was cold, dismissive, and it hit him like a physical blow, wiping the forced pleasantry from his face.
He bit back his irritation. She was still useful, after all. For now, he had to swallow his pride.
“Ophelia, it’s been too long since you left home. I miss you,” he pressed on, layering on the paternal concern. “Come home for dinner tonight. I’ve had Mia prepare all your favorites.”
The performance was flawless. But Ophelia only felt a sharp sting of contempt.
“Mr. Vossen,” she cut in, her voice dripping with mock curiosity. “What are my favorite dishes, exactly?”
So now he wanted to play happy family. Did he truly think she was that naive?
The question hung in the air, stark and exposing. Cameron had no answer, and he’d never bothered to learn.
Such empty pleasantries usually went unchallenged, a social script everyone followed. But Ophelia had torn up the script and left him stumbling on stage, utterly exposed.
Helpless as he was, he didn’t dare to direct his anger at Ophelia. Gritting his teeth, he attempted to reason with her, “Ophelia, if you’re upset with me, just come home and I’ll make it up to you.”
A frosty calm settled over Ophelia’s features. “Let’s be clear, Mr. Vossen,” she stated with icy precision. “You are no longer my father. There is nothing between us now.”
His audacity surprised even her.
Suddenly, Abigail’s shrill voice pierced through the phone, “Ophelia, how dare you! After everything we’ve done for you…” “Enough, you fool!” Cameron snapped before abruptly ending the call.
Blinking at the sudden silence, Ophelia processed the commotion. It seemed discord was brewing within the Vossen household.
Successfully unlocked!
Not that it concerned her anymore. If anything, the spectacle left iter feeling remarkably uplifted.
Ophelia promptly called Ella.

Chapter 94
“Boss? Calling at this hour. Did the news already reach you?” Ella’s voice carried a blend of irritation and wounded pride,
Amused by the tone, Ophelia quipped, “Someone sounds genuinely upset. Did you have a rough day?”
That was all the prompting Ella needed. “You won’t believe Carter’s sheer audacity,” she burst out, frustration boiling over.” He camped out at the company entrance and outright refused to leave.
“It escalated so badly that the police had to be called. I just got back from the station after dealing with that mess.”
Ella was utterly disgusted. Carter had acted entitled to money that wasn’t his, as though being denied was some personal injustice.
“Sounds about right,” Ophelia remarked, wholly unsurprised. The Vossens had never been known for principles. They’d stoop to any means to achieve their ends.
“Was there something you needed me for?” Ella inquired, half expecting instructions to put Carter in his place.
“I’ve decided to attend the fashion design exhibition. Please make the necessary arrangements.” Ophelia showed no interest in Carter’s antics, shifting focus firmly to her own plans.
“Oh?” Ella was momentarily thrown. “So this wasn’t about Carter after all.”
“You assured me you had it handled,” Ophelia replied, her tone conveying implicit trust. “I saw no need to interfere.”
“Understood,” Ella said, a little abashed. She’d mistaken the call for concern over her ordeal.
But since no specific orders were given, she’d deal with Carter her own way. Handling someone like him was well within her capabilities.
