Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 110

You brought them back gifts. I didn't get one, obviously, but do you remember what you said to me? Want me to refresh your memory?"

She had been sobbing, begging him to protect her. And Frederick had looked down at her and sneered: *"You're alive, aren't you? You didn't die. I just closed a massive deal, stop crying and ruining my good mood. Go back to your room."*

From that day forward, she had stopped seeing Frederick as a father.

Frederick completely lost it. "That was years ago! What is the point of dragging it up now?! You ungrateful little bitch. I raised you, and you won't even lift a finger to save your own father! I should have let you starve!"

Stella's laugh was sharp and bitter. "Ungrateful? Does it not make you physically sick to say that out loud? Did you raise me? When my mother was alive, you completely ignored me. After she died, you let Miranda torture me. Then my grandfather took me away, and I never ate another meal under your roof. Where do you get the absolute audacity to claim you raised me?"

Frederick looked like he was about to blow a blood vessel, but he forced the words out. "I gave you life! You wouldn't even exist without me! Now is the time to pay me back!"

Stella stared at him, her expression dead calm. "If I had known you were going to be my father, I would have prayed to never be born. Bottom line: you aren't getting a dime. Now hand over my mother's bangle."

Getting angry at these heartless parasites was a waste of energy. What was she even expecting?

Ten years had passed, and absolutely nothing had changed. He was exactly the same monster he had always been.

"You're not getting this bangle until you hand over the money!"

Stella tilted her head. "Really? Because if you don't give it to me right now, I'm going to throw the biggest, ugliest tantrum you've ever seen. Don't say I didn't warn you."

Miranda sneered in disgust. "You really are just a feral country brat. You didn't learn a single useful skill out there, just how to act like a street urchin. Go ahead. Let's see this tantrum."

With Frederick home, Miranda felt invincible again. She wasn't going to be bullied by a little girl anymore.
