Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 150

To prevent any more alcohol-induced fiascos, it was definitely best to end the party early.

The crowd had already gotten their fill of drama, eaten the cake, and networked with whoever they wanted to, so no one really had any interest in sticking around. They began to filter out.

Stella said her goodbyes to Sylvie, ready to head home herself.

"Stella, can't you just stay the night with me?"

"Careful, Sylvie, people are going to start misunderstanding us. My orientation is perfectly normal."

"Ugh, Stella, you're the worst! I'm being serious, and you're just making fun of me."

Stella pinched her cheek affectionately. "I won't stay tonight, but I'll come hang out with you when I have time. Happy birthday!"

Sylvie hugged her tightly, reluctant to let go. "School's about to start again, it's going to be so hard to see you."

Stella patted her back. "Not at all. You come home on the weekends, right? We'll just make plans then."

"Alright. Did you drive here? If not, I can have my brother take you home."

"No need, I drove myself."

After bidding farewell to the Jennings parents, Stella walked out.

As she reached the parking lot, a car next to hers honked its horn.

She walked over and saw Julius Blackwood. He stepped out of the driver's seat and stood by the open door.

"What are you doing here?"

"To take you home." With her gone, the house felt far too empty.

"I drove myself here."

"It's fine, my bodyguard can drive your car back. Get in."

Julius held the passenger door open for her. Once she was seated, he closed it and slid into the driver's seat.

"Then why didn't you ever mention it? And you didn't even show up tonight."

"I never planned on going, so why would I bring it up? Besides, they only invited single heirs and heiresses. I'm a married man. It wouldn't have been appropriate for me to attend."

The only reason he had let her go was because she was friends with Sylvie. She didn't have many friends, and since it was rare for her to have a friend her own age celebrating a birthday, he allowed it.

Otherwise, he never would have felt comfortable letting her attend. She was stunning and young, and he worried about some sleazebag trying to make a move on her.

That thought prompted him to ask, "Did any men try to hit on you tonight?"

"Not really. Though I did run into your friends from Ember Bar. We chatted for a bit, but none of them wanted to drink with me."

Julius completely ignored that last part. There was no way he was drinking with her either.

Her alcohol tolerance was absolutely terrifying!

Seeing him stay silent, Stella pressed on, "I heard Jason Blackwood was invited too, but I didn't see him tonight either."
