Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 167

The tall racer slammed into the ground violently, tumbling down the incline as his bike flipped over and over behind him. Man and machine rolled down the slope in a chaotic mess, until the heavy bike finally pinned him to the dirt.

Taking a fall from that height was brutal enough. Tumbling down the jagged incline made it worse. Now, trapped under a mountain of metal, it was an absolute nightmare!

He was completely immobilized until the crew rushed over to drag the heavy bike off him.

Clutching his leg, he writhed in the dirt, screaming in agony. He knew immediately that his leg was broken.

Why had he panicked? Why couldn't he control the bike mid-air like that short racer did?

Jason burst into a fit of laughter. "Looks like your guy just ate dirt, Weber! You lose!"

It was incredibly satisfying.

Weber's face had already darkened the moment he saw his racer crash, but being mocked by Jason made his blood boil.

"What are you so smug about? Your guy hasn't even gone yet. You think it's a guaranteed win?"

Right now, Weber was desperately praying Jason's racer would hit a rock and flip just like his guy did.

Damn his luck! If he had known this would happen, he never would have planted that stupid rock!

The crowd who had bet on the tall guy erupted into frustrated groans.

"Guess his luck ran out. We lost!"

"Dammit, I should have bet on shorty! There goes my cash!"

"Hold on a second, maybe the short guy will wipe out too?"

"Are you kidding? The odds of him winning are huge. They hit the exact same obstacle; the tall guy crashed, but the shorty didn't."

Weber's man had failed. Now, it was Stella's turn.

Stella was already intimately familiar with this track, and now she knew exactly where Weber had planted the trap. Seeing her opponent's devastating crash only proved there was zero competition left.

Weber had been too clever for his own good.
