Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 226

She desperately wanted to laugh, but held it in to maintain her composure.

Someone at the adjacent table, however, failed to hold back and let out a loud snort of laughter.

Rhoda had never expected a man so impossibly handsome and elegant to say something so utterly humiliating. She stood frozen in place, her face flushing crimson, completely speechless.

Seeing Julius step up to defend her, Stella decided to lean fully into the victim role. "Julius, dear," she murmured, her voice soft and fragile, "I don't feel well. Can we just go home?"

With her naturally striking beauty and the way she looked like she was bravely holding back tears of profound grievance, everyone around them immediately felt that Rhoda had crossed a massive line.

Even Weber looked pained, looking as though he desperately wanted to pull Stella into his arms and comfort her.

Though Julius knew she was putting on an act, hearing her call him 'Julius, dear' still melted his heart and made him genuinely protective of her.

He made a mental note to ensure the Harper family paid a steep price for this. He was going to get justice for his little wife!

They had already seen everything they needed to see anyway. It was time to leave.

"Alright, I'll take you home."

Julius wrapped a protective arm around her shoulders and guided her toward the exit. He would ask her about whatever was bothering her regarding that perfume once they were in the car.

As Stella walked past Rhoda, their shoulders brushed. Stella's hand made a microscopic flick. Rhoda felt absolutely nothing, and no one else in the room noticed a thing.

But the moment the couple disappeared through the double doors, Rhoda realized she was completely paralyzed.

Rooted to the spot, she panicked and shrieked at Weber, "Weber, I can't move! I swear, that bitch Stella did something to me!"

Weber scoffed in disgust. "They're already gone, and you're still standing here trying to frame her? I was right next to you the whole time. She didn't even lay a finger on you. How long are you going to keep up this embarrassing act? If you're not leaving, I am."

This woman was a complete and utter embarrassment!

The surrounding crowd immediately started voicing their disdain.

"Exactly. What is wrong with you? You said such horrible things to that poor girl, and she didn't even argue back. Now that they've politely left, you're still trying to slander her? You're completely unhinged."
