By a little past nine o'clock, Stella finally slipped away.
She got into her car, changed into her sleek black tactical gear, and drove straight to the address Norma had provided.
After finding a discreet place to park, she stepped out into the night and secured a stylized butterfly mask over her face.
Dressed head-to-toe in black with her features completely obscured, her identity was perfectly concealed.
She located the target building—an isolated two-story house.
Sticking to the shadows, she did a quick perimeter check. There were guards stationed at the front gate, and security cameras covered almost every angle of the property.
This Gideon Kaye was definitely hiding something. Why else would a perfumer live in such a remote location surrounded by heavy security?
Remembering the sickening scent of the perfume from earlier that day, her eyes turned ice-cold.
She prayed Gideon wasn't involved in what she suspected. Because if he was, he was a dead man walking.
She calculated the distance from the ground to the second-floor balcony. Scaling the wall would be effortless for her.
Only the front gate and the ground floor had lights on. The second floor was pitch black. It was far too early for Gideon to be asleep.
Stella deduced he was either not home, or occupying the ground floor.
With the cameras and guards covering the lower level, her only viable point of entry without triggering an alarm was a blind spot leading to the second story.
Evading the camera's sweeping lens, she quickly scaled the exterior wall.
The height was negligible for someone with her training. Within seconds, she was on the balcony. She popped the window latch and slipped silently inside.
Knowing a light switch would immediately alert the guards below, she pulled out a specialized penlight and began methodically sweeping the room.
She hadn't even found a single clue when she suddenly heard a faint sound from outside the room.
Talk about terrible luck. She had barely just broken in. Who was coming upstairs?
She killed her flashlight and melted into the shadows behind the thick window drapes.
Listening closely to the subtle movements, she realized the newcomer was also sneaking around looking for something. After all, they hadn't turned on the lights either!
Through the fabric of the curtain, she could faintly detect the sweeping beam of another flashlight.
Who was this?
