She was absolutely certain that Gideon Kaye's perfume was hiding something sinister.
"Alright, I'll set it up. You're coming to work with me tomorrow."
He trusted her completely. If she said the perfume contained human extracts, then it did. Otherwise, she wouldn't have gone out of her way to investigate the man tonight.
It was just like when she had first arrived at the Blackwood residence, claiming she could cure his legs. And in the end, she had done exactly that.
Having finalized their plan, the two washed up and went to bed. It was already late.
The next morning.
Stella accompanied Julius to the Blackwood Group headquarters.
She rode the private CEO elevator straight up to the executive floor.
When Sean Cahill saw her, his jaw nearly dropped. He couldn't help but wonder who this stunning young woman was, and why his boss had brought her to the office.
Curiosity was human nature, and Sean was no exception.
So, the moment Stella stepped away to use the restroom, he slipped into the CEO's office, eyes gleaming with gossip. "Boss, bringing a beauty to work today? Hiding a gorgeous mistress... does Nadine know about this?"
Sean wasn't just Julius's Chief Assistant; he was one of his closest friends. Julius had helped him in the past, earning Sean's absolute loyalty. He was brilliant at his job and an indispensable right-hand man.
Julius shot his nosy assistant a cold glare. "Stop talking nonsense. She's my wife. My grandmother is the one who arranged our marriage."
It was the truth. If his grandmother hadn't believed in that superstitious arranged marriage meant to ward off bad luck, Stella would never have come to the Blackwood family.
And if she hadn't thrown a fit and forced them to get their marriage license, they would likely have remained strictly business partners. Once their contract ended, they might have never crossed paths again.
Fate was a mysterious thing. It felt as though everything had been preordained.
Sean's joke about a "mistress" was way out of line. She was his legally wedded wife, not some kept woman.
This idiot was practically calling him a senior citizen with every breath.
Though, Sean was right about one thing—he had definitely hit the jackpot.
"I'm going, I'm going. Rolling right out." Fearing he might actually get exiled to some remote branch, Sean grabbed the folders and bolted.
Once the office was quiet, Julius discreetly opened his browser and looked up a picture of the viral influencer Sean had mentioned.
Not even close. His wife was far more beautiful.
At half past ten, Gideon Kaye arrived.
Sean personally went down to escort him up, making the man feel incredibly valued.
In the conference room, he reached out to shake Julius's hand. "Mr. Blackwood. It's a pleasure."
