Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 402

A drunk Drake proved to be very chatty, spilling both things he should and definitely shouldn't have to Stella and Julius.

People rarely remembered their drunken ramblings the next day. Stella could only hope Drake would forget everything he blabbed about tonight.

Otherwise, she'd have to worry about making a brand-new enemy.

"Drake, you're wasted. Where do you live? We'll get you a ride." Stella was the only sober one among them, boasting an unmatched tolerance for alcohol.

"No need... for a ride. I already... called my guys. Star, if you ever need anything in Port City... just come to me. I've... got your back."

Drake was so drunk his words were completely slurring together.

"Yeah, yeah, I know. I'll definitely come find you next time." The best way to handle a drunk was to just humor them.

Stella waited until Drake's men arrived and loaded him into a car before hailing a ride of her own and helping Julius out of the restaurant.

Unlike Drake, a drunk Julius was incredibly quiet. He didn't say a word unless directly spoken to.

It made Stella wonder if she could get him to spill some drunken truths.

So, once they were back in their hotel room, she poured him a glass of water, made him drink it, and began her interrogation.

"Julius, don't fall asleep yet. I have a question for you."

Wrapped around her familiar warmth and breathing in her scent, he was completely relaxed and already drifting off.

"What is it?" he mumbled against her shoulder.

"Who was your first love?" Julius was pushing thirty; she refused to believe he'd never dated anyone.

She wasn't jealous—she was honestly just curious.

"My wife is my first love."

After a brief pause, he pushed her back slightly and slurred, "Don't talk nonsense. I love my wife very much. Don't even try to drive a wedge between us."

Stella was stunned. She was actually his first love?

Julius dragged himself out of bed and splashed cold water on his face to sober up.

After they finished the room service lunch, he asked, "Stella, was I completely wasted last night? Did I say anything that made you mad?"

She decided to mess with him. "No, you came back, took a shower, and went straight to sleep. You're a perfect drunk."

"Really?"

He looked at her suspiciously. Why did he have a vague feeling that something else had happened?

"Really. Why would I lie? I booked a three o'clock flight. We just need to rest a bit, pack up, and go check out."

There was no way she was going to remind him about their steamy shower activities.

Julius tried to search his foggy memory. Had it all just been a very vivid dream?

He distinctly remembered them showering together, and then... well... he had definitely enjoyed himself!
