Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 45

Thank god he had listened to Miranda and put the necklace up for auction.

But how on earth did it have such a legendary backstory?

Clara had never mentioned a word about the necklace's origins. He had always assumed Dewey Todd's wife had just passed it down to her as a simple keepsake.

To think it carried such an insane pedigree—it just sold for over a hundred million!

"One hundred and ten million." Someone downstairs made a desperate attempt to snatch it.

Julius didn't even blink. He spoke into the mic again. "One hundred and fifty million."

The hall fell into a graveyard-like silence once more.

This time, no one dared to raise their paddle.

Dropping a hundred and fifty million on a necklace was absolute madness.

No matter how historic or valuable it was, it simply wasn't worth that kind of cash.

A person could fund empires with a hundred and fifty million.

The bidder who had offered one hundred and ten million backed down instantly, completely out of the race.

The host's voice broke the quiet. "The VIP in the private box has bid one hundred and fifty million! Do I hear any higher?"

"One hundred and fifty million going once. One hundred and fifty million going twice. One hundred and fifty million for the third and final time..."

"Sold!"

"Congratulations to the esteemed guest in VIP Box Two for winning the 'Angel's Heart'! Our staff will bring the item up to you shortly, along with a card machine to process the payment."

Down in the hall, Frederick was practically vibrating with joy. He was taking home a seventy percent cut—that was one hundred and five million in pure profit!

It was even more than the original wedding fund he had received. With this kind of capital, he could easily expand his company.

If he had known the necklace was worth this much, he would have auctioned it off years ago.

He frowned slightly as it went down. "Tastes awful."

Why wouldn't he dare? The moment she had moved into the estate, she had given him medicine, and he had taken it without hesitation. He was even less afraid now.

If she had wanted to poison him, she would have done it a long time ago instead of spending weeks nursing his legs back to health.

Besides, their mutual agreement was still in effect; she had no reason to take him out.

"You should be grateful. Other people beg for this and can't get it. Once it kicks in, you'll be running around like new in half a month. I guarantee you won't have any lingering issues.

"I won't even bill you for this one. Consider it a thank you for helping me get my mother's necklace back today."

"Thank you, Stella. As soon as I can walk, I promise I'll help you get your mother's ashes back."

"We'll see when the time comes. Frederick moved the urn. The cemetery plot has nothing but a blank tombstone now, and I still haven't figured out where he hid her."

"I'll help you investigate."
