Stella stood silently on the sidelines, observing the bloodbath.
The old man cast a brief, languid glance her way before completely ignoring her existence.
Stella didn't say a word, perfectly content to watch him absolutely dismantle Kane.
Kane was a moody, hostile prick who hadn't shown her an ounce of respect when she was "abducted" here, even going so far as to threaten her.
Watching him get publicly executed by the old man was pure poetry.
She hadn't stuck around to watch Kane play on the cruise ship, having left early to find food, so this was the perfect opportunity to see what he was made of.
Judging by the chips on the table, however, even Kane and Lucian combined couldn't hold a candle to the old man.
It came down to the final hand.
Kane stared at his hole cards, the tension rolling off him in waves. With a triumphant, arrogant bark of laughter, he slammed them face-up onto the felt. "Old man, you're dead! Look at this. You lose!"
The old man barely lifted an eyelid. His lips twitched. "Are you absolutely certain about that?"
Kane snarled, "Whatever tricks you've got left, play them! There's no way you beat me. This is the highest possible hand."
"Is it? Why don't you look at my cards before you start celebrating?" the old man replied, his voice entirely devoid of inflection. He didn't even bother looking up this time.
"Stop stalling, old man! Flip them! There is zero chance you take this pot."
"Flip them yourself. That way, when you lose, you can't accuse me of cheating like this other idiot did." The old man remained completely still.
Provoked beyond reason, Kane reached across the table and viciously flipped the old man's cards.
The second the cards were revealed, Kane completely lost his mind.
"Impossible! This is impossible!"
"You cheated! You absolutely cheated!"
"There's no way! That card was already played!"
