Queen of Wild Cards novel Chapter 60

The fact that the woman confidently mentioned a 'Mr. Blackwood' meant she knew exactly who Stella was married to.

And right now, the only people aware of her connection to the Blackwood family were the three Hawthornes. Not even Sylvie knew.

Well, Carter knew, but he had been sitting right in front of her.

It had to be the Hawthornes. But which one?

Was Frederick trying to drug her so he could hand-deliver her to some creepy old billionaire for a business deal?

Was Miranda plotting to utterly destroy her reputation?

Or was Chloe still seeking petty revenge for being humiliated on Stella's first day back?

Honestly, all three were perfectly capable of pulling a stunt this repulsive. They were all absolute garbage.

Ten years had passed, and they were still the exact same toxic nightmares. Well, if they wanted to play dirty, she was more than happy to serve their own poison right back to them.

Whoever set this trap was about to enjoy the full consequences of their own actions!

Seeing Stella go completely silent, Carter leaned in with genuine concern. "Do you need me to call in some guys for backup?"

Stella scoffed, dripping with arrogant confidence. "Please. Go home, Carter. Don't drag yourself into this amateur hour. I can handle it. This kind of cheap trick is child's play."

Knowing she was more than capable of handling herself, Carter didn't push it. He just offered one last piece of advice:

"Hey, your fake husband isn't just a prop. If things go sideways, play the damsel and let him handle the fallout. Do not let yourself get screwed over."

"Relax. It's an act of mercy on my part if I don't screw them over. Just speed up the timeline on those parts I asked you to modify."
