When Frederick received Larry's call, he thought he was hearing things.
"Larry, what did you just say? Could you repeat that? I don't think I caught it."
"Mr. Hawthorne, you heard me perfectly. My boss and his wife will be visiting the Hawthorne family tomorrow. That's all. Please make sure everything is properly prepared. Mr. Blackwood is an incredibly busy man, and it's rare for him to find the time to accompany his wife home."
Larry hung up immediately after finishing his sentence.
The Hawthorne household, however, erupted into chaos.
"Dad, did you just say Stella and her dying husband are coming back tomorrow? Isn't he supposed to be dead by now?"
Chloe's voice was shrill. She couldn't accept the fact that the marriage she had thrown away to Stella had actually left the man perfectly alive.
If that was the case, didn't that mean she had handed the title of the richest man's wife over to Stella on a silver platter?
Miranda was equally skeptical. "When Larry came to demand the wedding fund back, didn't he say their boss was lying in the hospital on his deathbed?"
At the time, Larry had even threatened that if they didn't return the money, he would drag Chloe away, break her legs, and bury her alive with Mr. Blackwood.
Frederick raised his voice. "Quiet, both of you! We'll find out the truth tomorrow when they get here. What's the point of interrogating me? How am I supposed to know?"
"Make sure everything is pristine. We cannot afford to offend Mr. Blackwood. Let's just wait and see what the situation is."
"Who knows, we might even be able to get that wedding fund back. Combined with the money from the necklace auction, my company's funding issues would be a thing of the past!"
The more Frederick thought about it, the more convinced he became. He could already picture his company going public, with endless streams of wealth pouring in from all directions.
Miranda voiced her concerns. "Do you think she's coming back to tear our house apart again?"
