At Brighton Hospital.
"Mr. Blackwood, the results for the sample you brought in are ready." The lab doctor handed Julius a file.
Julius scanned the lengthy chemical breakdown on the report: Hydrated magnesium silicate, Mg3[Si4O10](OH)2, fibrous aggregates, monoclinic crystal system.
The conclusion: Talcum powder.
He waved the doctor away and handed the report to Stella.
Stella read it over and scoffed. "Talcum powder. I honestly thought it would be quicklime or flour. What the hell is Frederick playing at?"
"Now that we know what it is, what do you want to do?"
"I'm going to find Frederick right now and demand answers!"
She turned to leave the hospital.
Julius caught her arm. "Stella, we don't need to go to him. If we show up at his door, he might not tell us the truth. I have a better idea. We'll make him come begging to you."
"What kind of idea?"
"Like this..." Julius leaned in and whispered his plan into her ear.
Stella nodded enthusiastically. "Yes! Okay, that's brilliant. I was honestly just going to ambush him in an alley if he refused to talk. Your way is much better."
Julius patted her head. "Come on, let's go get some food." His tone dripped with an indulgence he hadn't even realized was there.
"Deal. I want a massive feast."
"Order whatever you want. Anything you crave."
They arrived at the third-floor restaurant of the Astoria Grand Hotel.
Julius chose this place specifically because they had incredibly rare bluefin tuna today.
Bluefin tuna was the pinnacle of its kind, highly coveted for its exquisite flavor. Aside from being astronomically expensive, catching it on a menu was purely a matter of luck.
When Stella heard about it, of course she wanted to try it.
