Harrison nodded. “Yes. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to test it on any people with Luna’s Bane just yet. Only lab mice. Unfortunately, their livers haven’t been able to process the particles yet.” One of the cats, a white one that Ivy was currently trying to pet while it perched on the back of the chaise, licked its chops.
“Absolutely not.” Kade handed the paper back to Harrison. “I’m not putting my sister through a potentially dangerous procedure that has only been performed on mice.”
Harrison’s face fell. I looked between him and Kade for a moment, noticing the tension in Kade’s jaw. He was worried for Debbie, and it made my chest soften again in that familiar way.
“Harrison,” I said, “what if you didn’t have to direct the particles toward the liver?”
He tilted his head. “What do you mean?”
I held up my hands. “If we could direct the particles into a less dangerous area, then maybe I could use my Silver Wolf’s healing ability on them. I think that’s why I haven’t been able to use it; the particles are too small and spread out. But if they were more tangible…”
The healer’s eyes lit up. “That could actually work!” he exclaimed. He pulled out a journal that looked much like the ones from the stack he’d shown me before and began writing in it furiously. “Hm… Yes, if we could direct the particles elsewhere… Perhaps toward her appendix… She does still have her appendix, correct?” He looked up at Kade.
Kade nodded, glancing at me. I could see the worry in his eyes, but I could see a flicker of interest there, too.
“It’s worth a shot,” I said quietly.
Kade pursed his lips. Finally, he looked at Harrison again. “Can you test the procedure using this method in a way that wouldn’t hurt her too much?”
“Absolutely.” Harrison finished writing and snapped his journal shut. “And I would want to run some other tests first, anyway. See how she reacts to the solution, the apparatus, that sort of thing. If we’re certain she can handle those things, then we’ll attempt a very small extraction.”
Kade considered it again for a long time. After what felt like an eternity, he nodded. “Fine. But if either of you hurt my sister—”
