Elena’s POV
My jaw clenched. I pried Ivy’s hands off of me, gently but firmly, and held her at arm’s length.
“No,” I replied. “We do not have a child.”
Ivy frowned. “But you’re my Mommy.”
“I’m not.” I straightened, ignoring the pang in my chest, and faced Kade and Harrison. The latter looked completely confused, which I couldn’t blame him for. I nodded my chin toward Kade. “What are you doing here?”
“I heard you came.” He took a step into the house and looked around at the piles of books and the multitude of cats. “I told you I’d like to join you.”
I folded my arms. “How did you hear I had come here?”
Kade hesitated. His silence told me all I needed to know.
“You’ve got people following me?” I blurted out.
Surprisingly, he sighed. “No.”
I stared at him for a moment in disbelief. He’d gone so far as to stalk me before—I wasn’t surprised he was doing it now. Harrison cleared his throat, drawing our attention. “Well, we were just talking about your sister’s condition.” He gestured for Kade to enter. “Please come in. Pardon the mess.”
Kade stepped into the house, looking around some more. I glanced down to find that Ivy was messing with one of the implements on the alchemy table, and I pulled her hand away without thinking.
“What’s this?” I asked, looking up at the healer.
Harrison smiled. “That’s my most recent solution. It’s still in the testing phase, but I think it could be useful in helping to draw the Luna’s Bane particles out of a patient’s blood.” He looked at Kade. “If you’re interested, I would love to try it on your sister.”
Kade took the paper from me, studying it, then looked warily at the healer. “What does it do?”
“It’s injected into the blood, where it can bind to the particles,” Harrison replied. “From there, a magnetized apparatus will be passed over the body. The particles will be directed toward the liver. Then, with a special syringe, I would remove the coagulated particles. It would take multiple sessions, of course. Too large of a coagulation and she could face a blockage.”
I considered this for a moment. It sounded risky and highly experimental, but it could work. I wondered if I could use my ability then, too. Maybe, if the particles were drawn to a specific area, I could locate them more easily.
“You said this is still in testing?” Kade asked.
