Kade blinked. “Serena never enters Debbie’s room unless she has to.”
“I know. But that’s not the point. After I calmed Debbie down, she kept whispering something under her breath. A name.”
“Whose?”
“Samantha’s.”
Kade felt his stomach bottom out. Without responding, he brushed past Ajax and entered Debbie’s room. It was quiet and dimly lit; she was resting peacefully while one of the pack healers quietly read to her from a book. The healer stood, curtsying to Kade, and left.
Kade walked over to Debbie’s bed and leaned close. She wasn’t speaking now, just sleeping.
“You’re sure she was saying Samantha’s name?” Kade whispered, looking at his Beta.
Ajax crossed his index finger over his heart.
Kade stared at his sister for a moment longer. It could have been nothing, perhaps just one of her hallucinations, but after everything he’d been suspecting lately, he couldn’t just ignore this. It could be connected to Samantha.
Or rather… Elena.
“Keep an eye on her,” Kade said, crossing to the door. “And let me know right away if it happens again.”
…
Elena’s POV
I shoved my bag into the back of the car and shivered. “Looks like it’s gonna snow again,” I mused to Tyler, looking up at the gray sky. “We should keep that in mind while we’re in Crescent Hollow. If the weather is bad here, then it’s worse there.”
Tyler nodded, scratching his head and looking around, then cursed. “Shit. I forgot something. I’ll be right back.”
I watched as he ran back to the house, taking the front steps two at a time. As he entered, Natasha came out. I clenched my jaw and pretended to be busy with packing up the car, but really, I just didn’t want to deal with her or my father right now.
“Ahem.” Natasha came to stand beside me and cleared her throat. “We need to talk.”
