‘She can go to a hotel,’ I said, feeling overwhelmed by everything that was happening and trying to fix this as soon as I can before things would become

irreversible.

‘I need to get home and talk to Lumina.”

‘Your wife burned down Sophia’s house,” my mother said coldly. “She has no ome because of what Lumina did. And Sophia says she’ll drop the charges against Lumina if you take her in temporarily.”

I stopped walking when I heard this. “Drop the charges?” If Sophia was dropping the charges, that means that I wouldn’t be forced to turn in Lumina over to the court or risk being summoned by the Alpha council by refusing to let my mate be punished justly.

‘She doesn’t want to press charges against your wife if you’ll just let her stay with you until she can find other arrangements. She’s thinking about your son, Xenois. About keeping the family together.”

I felt torn between my loyalty to Lumina and my responsibility to Sophia and Riley. If Sophia truly dropped the charges, maybe we could work through

this and come to a solution ourselves.

Maybe there was still a chance to save my marriage.

“Fine,” I said reluctantly. “But just for tonight. Tomorrow I’ll help her find somewhere else to stay.”

tried calling Lumina as I drove back to the hospital, but her phone went straight to voicemail.

I left several messages, trying to explain that I was bringing Sophia home temporarily, I didn’t want her to see her the moment we came but also have

prior notice, that we needed to talk, that I wanted to hear her side of the story to help me understand what was happening, because despite everything, I

didn’t feel too certain Lumina did this.

At the hospital, I found Sophia in a wheelchair by the discharge desk, looking fragile and vulnerable with her arm in a sling and visible bruises on her

face.

Despite everything, despite my confusion and anger, I felt guilty seeing her injured.

“Thank you for coming,” she said softly as I helped her into my car. “I know this is difficult.”

This is temporary,” I said firmly as I started the engine. “One night, and the we figure out other arrangements.”

As we drove through the city, Sophia reached over and placed her uninjured and on my arm. I immediately pulled away, my body tensing.

‘Don’t,” I said sharply. “Don’t touch me.”

“Xenois, I’m sorry,” she said, tears starting to fall from her eyes as she shook her head.

“I never wanted any of this to happen.”

*Tell me the truth, Sophia,” I said, my voice hard. “How is Riley my son? We never slept together. I would remember that. My hands were gripping the

steering wheel, my knuckles white.

‘How can you ask me that?” she said, her voice breaking down in disbelief and pain as she wiped her tears. ‘How can you question something so

intimate between us?”

‘Because the timeline doesn’t make sense,” I said, gritting my teeth, trying to control my anger.

“Riley is five years old. Five years ago, you were already gone from my life. I was with Lumina.”

“We were together,” she insisted, sobbing now. “It was after one of your fights with Lumina, when you were questioning whether you were making the

right choice. You came to me, and we…”

“Stop,” I said, my voice was deadly quiet as I shook my head. “Just stop lying to me.”

I’m not lying!” she cried. “How can you say that when you have a son who looks just like you?”
