Chapter 133
OLLIE
“Lyn,” Mommy said quickly, looking at him, alarm scribbled on her face.
“I don’t think-”

“Just hear me out,” Lyn said, holding up a hand to stop her from rambling as he faced me and continued speaking.
“Ollie, what if I told you that I could help you call your daddy? From Zade’s office, there’s a special phone line that connects directly
to your daddy’s office. You could talk to him and tell him you’re okay.”
My heart jumped with excitement, hearing this from him as my eyes widened in surprise.
“Really? I could talk to Daddy?”
“I’d have to ask Zade first, Lyn said, looking thoughtful for a moment before nodding his head.
“But I think he’d say yes. The only thing is, it would just be a phone call. You wouldn’t be able to see him or go home yet.”
“That’s not a good idea,” Mommy said, her voice filled with worry as she shook her head and continued speaking.
“What if… what if Xenois doesn’t want to talk to him? What if he says something that hurts Ollie more?”
Lyn stood up and moved closer to Mommy, speaking in a lower voice. But I have really good hearing, especially since my wolf had started waking up, so I could still hear what they were saying.
“Lumina, think about this,” Lyn said gently. “This little boy is heartbroken. He’s been separated from his father without any explanation that makes sense to him. A five-minute phone call might help both of them.”
“But what if Xenois is relieved that we’re gone?” Mommy whispered. “What if he tells Ollie that he’s happier without us? It would
destroy him.”
‘Do you really believe that?” Lyn asked. “Because from what Zade told me, Xenois had a heart attack from the stress of losing you both. He’s been in the hospital for three days. Does that sound like a man who’s happy you’re gone?”
Daddy had a heart attack? My chest felt heavy and I was scared about him. I knew heart attacks were not good. My classmate Sarah’s grandfather died from a heart attack and everyone was crying when they were burying him under the ground.
Was Daddy okay? Was he hurt because we left?
“A heart attack?” Mommy said, and her voice sounded scared as well as she asked. “He’s in the hospital?”

“He is,” Lyn confirmed, nodding his head. “And according to my sources, he’s been asking about both of you constantly, since he woke
I wanted to jump up and tell them that see, Daddy did love us, but I stayed quiet and kept pretending to play with my cars.
Grown-ups talked more when they forgot kids were listening.
“I don’t know,” Mommy said, but she didn’t sound as sure anymore.
“What if it makes things worse?”
“What if it makes things better?” Lyn asked.
“What if this little boy gets to hear his father’s voice and know that he’s loved? What if Xenois gets to hear that his son is safe and
healthy?”
“Just think about it,” Lyn added when Mommy didn’t answer right away, gently pressing her to consider this alternative instead of
stopping all communication with my dad.
“The phone call could happen tomorrow, with both you and Zade present. It would be completely safe and controlled.”
I kept rolling my cars back and forth, but inside I was planning about my next move. If Lyn could help me call Daddy from Zade’s office, then I needed to find out where Zade’s office was. Maybe I could sneak in there when the grown-ups weren’t watching and call
Daddy myself.
Daddy needed to know I was okay, and I needed to hear his voice. I needed to tell him I was sorry for leaving and that I wanted to come home. And if Daddy was in the hospital because he was sad about us being gone, then he definitely needed to know we were safe.
I looked around the room, trying to remember the way to different parts of this big house.
Lynn had shown us around a little bit when we first arrived, and I remembered seeing some rooms with big desks and computers. One
of those had to be Zade’s office.
‘I’ll think about it,” Mommy finally said to Lyn, but I could tell she was still worried.
“That’s all I ask,” Lyn said. Then he crouched down next to me again. “Hey, Ollie? I know this is all really scary and confusing. But I want you to know that everyone here wants to help you, okay? We want you to be happy and safe.”
I looked up at him and nodded. He seemed really nice, and he was the first grown-up who had listened when I said I wanted to talk
to Daddy.
“Lyn?” I said quietly.
“Yeah, buddy?”

“Is my daddy really in the hospital?”

Lyn’s face got soft and sad. “He is, but he’s going to be okay. He’s just… he misses you a lot. And when people miss someone really,
really much, sometimes it makes their hearts hurt.”
I felt tears start to fall down my cheeks. “I miss him too. So much that my heart hurts.”
“I know you do,” Lyn said gently. “And I bet if your daddy knew how much you missed him, it would make him feel better.”
After Lyn left, Mommy tried to talk to me some more, but I just wanted to think about what I was going to do next now.
I played with my cars and ate dinner and got ready for bed like a good boy, but the whole time I was making my plan.
I needed to find Zade’s office. I needed to call Daddy and tell him I loved him and wanted to come home. And I needed to do it soon,
before Mommy decided it was too dangerous.
When Mommy tucked me into bed that night, I hugged her tight and told her I loved her, because I did. Even though I was mad at her for taking me away from Daddy, she was still my mommy and I knew she thought she was protecting me.
But I also knew that Daddy needed to hear my voice. He needed to know I was okay and that I still loved him more than anything in
the whole world.
So tomorrow, I was going to find that office and call my daddy, even if I had to do it all by myself.
