Chapter 139
LUMINA
“You shouldn’t have provoked him like that,” I said to Zade crossing my hands across my chest as soon as the call ended, turning to face him with disapproval written across my face.
The tension in the room was still heavy from the confrontation that Zade had with my mate and I could see the satisfaction in Zade’s eyes that made my stomach turn a bit, making me uneasy.
Zade shrugged, moving around his desk to lean against it casually, as if he hadn’t just deliberately antagonized the father of my child.
“We’re still rivals first and foremost, Lumina. I wanted to have the last word, and I did.”
“That wasn’t about rivalry,” I insisted, knowing that he was trying to play it off as a mere Alpha rivalry.
“That was about hurting him when he’s already down. When he’s already lost everything.”
“Has he though?” Zade asked, his dark eyes studying my face with intensity.
“Because from what I just heard, he seems to think he can win you back with pretty words and apologies.”
I felt my cheeks flush, unsure of how to respond to that statement he made.
The truth was, hearing Xenois’s voice, hearing the genuine pain and love in every word he spoke, had shaken me more than I wanted
to admit.
But I couldn’t ignore everything that had happened, all the hurt and betrayal that had led us to this point.
“Are you really considering rejecting the bond?” Zade asked quietly, his voice taking on a more serious tone.
I hesitated, looking down at my hands. “I don’t know. Maybe. I’m not sure what else to do anymore.”
“It might be a good idea,” Zade said, and something in his voice made me look up sharply.
There was an intensity in his eyes that I didn’t quite understand, like he wanted me to actually leave Xenois in the past.
“You could start fresh, without all the complications and pain. You and Ollie could have a real home here.”
Before I could respond to that statement, Ollie’s voice cut through the silence like a knife.
“I don’t like you,” my five-year-old son said firmly, standing in the doorway with his arms crossed in a perfect imitation of my own
posture.

Chapter 139
:
His frown was an almost replica of Xenols that my heart clenched.
*Ollie,” I said, moving toward him with concern. “What are you-”
“I’m sorry for calling Daddy without asking permission first,” Ollie continued, his eyes fixed on Zade with a glare that seemed far too
mature for his age.
“But I’m not sorry that I did it. He needed to hear my voice, and I needed to hear his.”
“Oliver Cardia Junior,” I said, using his full name in the tone that usually made him backtrack immediately.
“That’s enough. You need to apologize to Alpha Zade properly.”
But Ollie didn’t back down. Instead, he took a step further into the room, his small chin lifted defiantly.
“Alpha Xenois is still my father,” he said, his voice carrying the kind of certainty that only children possessed.
“And you are not going to replace him. I don’t care if you and Mommy are friends. Any man that tries to steal my mom from my dad
is a bad man in my book.”
“Ollie!” I gasped, mortified by his bluntness. I moved toward him, intending to correct his behavior, but Zade’s voice stopped me.
“Let him speak,” Zade said calmly, though I could see something flickering in his eyes. “The boy is entitled to his opinion.”
Ollie nodded firmly, as if Zade’s permission validated everything he’d just said. “Good. Because I meant every word.”
With that declaration, my five-year-old son turned around and marched out of the office, leaving me staring after him in shock and disbelief wondering where my sweet innocent, happy, and respectful child went?
“Zade, I am so sorry,” I began, turning back to face him with embarrassment turning my face red, a bit ashamed that Ollie had said
this to him.
“He’s been through so much, and he’s confused and hurt, but that doesn’t excuse-‘
“Don’t apologize, Zade interrupted, straightening his posture from where he’d been leaning against his desk.
“He’s his father’s son. It’s exactly what I would have expected.”
There was something in his voice, a tone of respect mixed with something else I couldn’t identify.
He moved closer to me, close enough that I could smell his cologne and feel the warmth that was coming from his body.
“Zade,” I said quietly, taking a small step backward.

But he followed, closing the distance between us again. His hand reached up to brush a strand of hair behind my ear, the gesture
intimate and familiar in a way that made my breath catch.

‘Think about what I said, Lumina,” he murmured, his fingers trailing along my jaw before dropping back to his side.
“About starting fresh. You and Ollie will always have a place here, for as long as you want it.”
The offer hung between us, filled with a lot of unsaid things that I wasn’t ready to examine too closely. I could feel the weight of his eyes, the warmth that he had been giving me, a shoulder to lean on during these hard times, and it would have been so easy to lean into
the comfort he was offering freely.
It was so easy to let someone else take care of the decisions, to stop fighting for a marriage that seemed impossible to salvage
But Ollie’s voice echoed in my mind, his loyalty to the father who had hurt us both, his certainty about what was right and wrong in
his small world.
“I need to go after Ollie,’ I said, stepping back more decisively this time.
“I need to make sure he hasn’t gotten himself lost or into more trouble.”
Zade nodded, though I could see disappointment that flashed across his eyes. Of course. Family first.”
