Chapter 147
XENOIS
The morning had started perfectly well, with some sort of clarity that I hadn’t felt in months.
i (68)
For the first time since Lumina and Ollie had left, my mind was alert and focused, like a fog had lifted off me that I hadn’t even
realized was there.
I’d woken up energized, ready to take control of my life again and start making the changes that needed to be made, quickly now that
I had a chance to make it all right.
The meetings with the board representatives from another company who wanted to partner with us because they had Ideas of expansion for a project that would benefit everyone had gone better than anyone expected.
Thorne had warned them beforehand that I’d been in a terrible mood lately, and I was very prone to anger and harsh decisions that reflected poorly on the pack’s leadership. But instead of the angsty Alpha they’d been prepared to face, they’d found me reasonable and
easy to work with.
“The quarter projection revision looks solid,” I’d said during the morning session, going through their proposal with genuine interest instead of the distracted irritation that had been the new norm concerning my business dealings for months.
“I think we can move forward with the northern territory expansion, but I’d like to see revised projects that will be handed every two
months for the southern district.”
The lead representative, a nervous man named Marcus who’d been sweating profusely when introduced, had visibly relaxed as our
conversation progressed without it derailing.
By the end of the meeting, he was smiling and shaking my hand with genuine enthusiasm.
“Thank you for your time, Alpha Xenois,” he said. “This has been much more productive than we’d hoped for.”
After they’d left, I’d turned to find both Thorne and Margo staring at me with expressions that showed that they were truly concerned
about me.
“Sir, Margo had said carefully, “are you feeling alright? You seem… different today.”
“Different how?” I’d asked, genuinely curious about her observation. Margo had gone from someone who hates me because Lumina and Ollie left and was wondering if I had somehow managed to convince myself everything was fine, in a deluded sort of way. She looked
torn as Thorne seemed to share the same sympathies with her.
“More like yourself,” Thorne had interjected glancing at Margo who nodded her head briefly before he continued speaking…
“More like the Alpha you were before… He’d trailed off, clearly uncertain how to finish that sentence without dredging up bad

memories..
Before everything went to hell, I’d thought but hadn’t said it out loud.
Before I’d lost my mate and son to my own failures and inability to put them first.
The lunch meeting later on had also equally been productive, and by the time we’d wrapped up, I was feeling more optimistic about
the pack’s future than I had in months.
It was then that Thorne had cornered me in my office, closing the door behind him, with the kind of look that made me realize that
he wanted to speak to me urgently about something.
“Alright,” he’d said, settling into the chair across from my desk. “What’s going on with you today? And don’t tell me nothing’s changed, because I’ve been your Beta for years and I know you well enough to recognize when something’s shifted.”
I leaned back in my chair, considering how much to tell him. “I found Sophia a place to live,” I’d said finally. “I’m asking her to leave
the house.”
Thorne’s eyebrows had shot up toward his hairline, looking surprised. He clearly wasn’t expecting that answer not even in a million
years. “You’re what?”
“I should have done it weeks ago,” I’d continued, feeling more certain with each word. “Her stay in my house was supposed to be temporary, just until I was released from the hospital. There’s no reason for her to still be living in my house, especially not when it’s preventing Lumina and Ollie from coming home.”
