Rebirth of the Broken Luna A Second Chance at Luna's Heart novel Chapter 151

Chapter 151

SOPHIA

I gestured to Bullet, who immediately ended the call by crushing the phone under his boot. The plastic and metal crunched satisfyingly, ensuring that Xenois wouldn’t be able to call back and potentially hear something that would give away our deception.

“Phase one complete,” I announced to the group with satisfaction. “Now for phase two.”

Two of Bullet’s men stood at opposite sides of Riley as he stood frozen near the tree line, still under the influence of the compulsion spell. They began leading him deeper into the forest toward the rocky path that I’d scouted weeks ago when I was planning this entire

scenario.

The cliff wasn’t that high- maybe thirty feet or so but it was more than enough for my purposes. The rocks at the bottom were

sharp and the stream that was located there as well would help explain why a body might not be found immediately.

“Come along, sweetheart,” I called out to Riley as we walked. “We’re almost at our final destination.”

Riley followed obediently, his small legs working faster than usual to keep up with the longer strides of the adults around him.

I could see the cliff edge through the trees now, a jagged line where the forest floor simply ended and there was nothing else there

but open sky.

Perfect. Absolutely perfect.

When we reached the edge, I took Riley’s hand and pulled him close to me, positioning him so that his back was to the drop. He

looked out over the forest that was spread below us with the kind of wonder that only children possessed, apparently unaware of how

dangerous his position was.

My phone buzzed in Bullet’s hand – he’d picked it up after destroying Riley’s phone – and I could see Xenois’s name on the display.

He was trying to call back, probably frantic with worry about what he’d heard.

‘Let it ring,” I said with a smile. “The more desperate he becomes, the better this works in my favor.”

The phone continued buzzing for a long time, and I imagined Xenois on the other end, probably calling emergency services, probably organizing search parties for us, and, probably losing his mind with fear for Riley’s safety.

Soon he’d be rushing through these very woods, looking for us, ready to be the hero who saved the day,

But he’d be too late. By the time he arrived, there would be nothing left to save.

“You’ve been such a good boy, Riley,” I said, pulling him against my side in what would look like a protective embrace to any observer.

“You did exactly what Mommy asked you to do.”

Chapter 151

Riley looked up at me with those trusting eyes, still under the spell’s influence. “Did I help, Mommy?”

“Yes, sweetheart,” I said, stroking his hair one final time. “You helped more than you know.”

I could feel Bullet and his men watching from a few feet away, waiting for me to give the signal.

This was it. This was the moment I’d been building toward for months.

This was the final removal of the last obstacle that was standing between me and my happily ever after with Xenois.

“Don’t worry,” I whispered to Riley, pulling him even closer to the edge. “It won’t hurt.”

The lie came easily to me. Of course it would hurt. But it would be over quickly, and then I’d never have to see those green eyes of

his again, never have to remember that this innocent child had been nothing but collateral damage in my quest for Xenois love.

With one quick movement, I placed my hands on Riley’s small shoulders and pushed.

He didn’t scream the compulsion spell prevented him from making any sound that might alert possible rescuers to his aid.
