Rebirth of the Broken Luna A Second Chance at Luna's Heart novel Chapter 152

Chapter 152

He simply fell, his small body soon disappearing over the cliff edge like a stone dropped into water.

I heard the impact a few seconds later – a wet, final sound that echoed up from the rocks below. Then nothing else.

It was done.

I turned back to Bullet and his men, feeling a lot lighter than I had in months. The weight of constant planning and scheming had been lifted from my shoulders, and was replaced by the satisfaction of a job well done.

“Excellent work,” I said as I dusted my hands and continued speaking. “Now we need to move to the next location for phase three.”

“Right,” Bullet said, not unbothered by what we’d just done. “Where do you want us to rough you up?”

I’d thought this through carefully. The injuries had to look convincing but not be so severe that they’d interfere with my ability to

play the grieving mother.

I needed a few cuts and bruises, maybe a twisted ankle

I wanted it to be enough to tell the story that I had fought hard to defend

Riley against the rogues but I had lost due to the numbers stacked against me.

“There’s another clearing about half a mile south of here,” I said, leading the group away from the cliff edge.

“It is more open and even better, easier for search parties to find me when they come looking.”

As we walked, I began mentally rehearsing my performance for when Xenois arrived.

“This plan is absolutely foolproof,” I told Bullet as we reached the secondary clearing, looking around nodding my head in approval.

‘Everyone will think Riley was kidnapped by rogues who killed him when they realized that reinforcements were coming. I’ll be the traumatized mother who fought desperately to save her child but couldn’t overcome the attackers.”

“And tonight?” Bullet asked, positioning his men around the clearing.

“Tonight I’ll be in Xenois’s arms, crying for my lost son,” I said with satisfaction, grinning.

‘I’ll be the broken woman who needs his strength to survive this tragedy. And he’ll be the grieving father who feels responsible for not protecting the child he’d come to love.”

It was perfect. Absolutely perfect.

Bullet’s men began their work, creating the evidence of a struggle there were signs of broken branches, disturbed earth, that has multiple boot prints on them, signs that multiple attackers had overwhelmed a single victim. One of them produced a knife and made a

shallow cut across my arm, just deep enough to bleed convincingly.

“Scream,” Bullet instructed. ‘Make it sound like you’re being overpowered.”

I let out another of my screams, this one imitated to sound like someone fighting desperately against superior ones.

Then another, weaker this time, as if I was losing the battle.

Finally, Bullet struck me across the temple with just enough force to daze me without causing serious injury.

I crumpled to the ground, my vision getting blurry as I fought to stay conscious.

“That should do it,” I heard him say from what seemed like a great distance.

“We’ll clear out now. Remember you never saw our faces, you fought as hard as you could, and you don’t remember exactly what

happened after they knocked you out.”

“Perfect,” I whispered, already feeling the edges of unconsciousness pulling at me..

As the sound of their vehicles faded into the distance, I smiled to myself despite the throbbing in my head. Soon Xenois would find

me here, battered and broken, the only survivor of a tragedy.

And finally, finally, I would have everything I’d ever wanted.

A/N: A moment of Silence for Riley.
